It doesn’t feel like it yet, but summer has kicked in. It feels like there is still a lot of work to be done and we are far away from a vacation but this heat has kicked in. In Dubai it was humid and a little hot, you find people just wiping the sweat off their brows. If you walk out of a cooled building wearing sunglasses you won’t be able to see anything since your glasses fog up.
Dubai felt a little on the empty side, most of everyone was in the malls during this period. This is the first time I see Mall completely packed so early in the afternoon, but it seems that its so humid outside that nobody really wants to be outside. It did feel nice for once that there wasn’t a lot of traffic on the streets.
I don’t think anyone could travel more comfortable then this on a plane. I was laughing when my friend decided to wear these slippers or en’aal naydeyah to the plane to and from Dubai. Its really easy but don’t think you can start running without losing some traction.
It was a nice break, got some work done but still very exhausting. It was an eventful weekend, we finished a good amount of work. Me and few people had meetings on Friday and Saturday afternoon, we which went pretty well.
Saturday we stayed up and enjoyed ourselves, it was a very good dinner. But Friday everyone was pretty much dead, we saw the movies we wanted to see. The funny part is that this whole trip was a very good trip, but nothing in comparison to how eventful, interesting, and bad the Kuwait Airways flight is. I’m going to write up all that happened on the departure and arrival flights, and Kuwait Airways is pretty much as bad as people think it is.
Now this is interesting, they have finally come up with an undersea resort. It seems that it is located some where close to the Fiji Islands and the number of under water suites are limited. They are inviting adventurers and certain people to come to this resort fro a unique stay. You will stay for two days underwater and the rest will be on the exclusive bangalow, a private twin-engine plane will take you from the Fijian Airport to the Poseidon Mystery Island, where ever that may be. You also have the use of Triton 1000 submarine at your disposal during the stay which is really interesting. It costs upwards of $15’000, I don’t know if that is per day or per week, would be very interesting to check it out.

Its always fun to get these types of trips together, some of the guys proposed a quick trip to Dubai to get a few things done. That was last week and it tumbled into a movie filled weekend and a change of scenery. I think it will do some good to get a quick break from the usual trend of things.
I want to see two movies while I’m there:
And probably what ever else is going to be out. One thing I am really looking forward to is the riblets from The Meat Company, it tastes really good and it gets really messy. The funny part is that we are flying Kuwait Airways most probably so there is no clue exactly when or if the plane is going to fly, KA doesn’t have the best track record.
Recently Emirates has been making some big announcements, they now have 3 very long haul flights. They are really taking over some of these long haul flights, I know someone who just tried the Brazil flight and they said it was very comfortable for 16 hours. It is a little bit more expensive then planes with stop overs. BA Flight from Kuwait to London, then London to San Paulo is cheaper then the Dubai to San Paulo for 400 KD. So sometimes it might be a little bit more expensive but still very convenient flights to have, some of these flights are booked up ahead with no availability for a few months.
After going to London a few times this is the list of restaurants which I do enjoy visiting, some are newer then others but still they are very good restaurants. A interesting and tasty menu to choose from as well as nice atmosphere, some of the restaurants are funkier then the others so it depends what you are looking for.
One of the best bookstores built so much to choose from that you get lost inside. This is one of my favorite bookstores in London, I can spend days there walking around picking up a different book every minute and I still won’t finish. The reviews section is the first thing I go to looking at the cards under each book and picking up these books, I have recently found the satire section which is funny in a witty way so I enjoy that.
Surprisingly for a bookstore of this type they don’t have that much magazines, they have a certain amount of a magazines and that is all what you get. After roaming the ground floor for an hour or so, I automatically head for the Science Fiction section to check out the new books they have. For some reason the Science Fiction section they have is always updated with new writers, and books so you are kept on your toes, you always find that one book you didn’t expect to find.
I tried resisting my urge to buy a ton of books or any books, but I couldn’t resist getting a few books as I mentioned before. I was carrying a lot of books before getting to the check I decided to slim them down to essentials. The only books I picked up were a little different then my usual selection except for the science fiction book. People didn’t even notice me snapping away with the camera, they were all lost in the books they were reading and even a few people moved out of my way so that I could take a few nice pictures. Even the staff were very helpful when I was asking about a few books, you can see how they enthusiastic they are about their books.
Getting to one place to another in London is the easiest thing possible, you have a choice of bus, cab, underground, or bicycle. Out of them I love black cabs the most, it symbolizes London in just one car. There are so many black cabs from the new ones to the old ones and I feel comfortable in any of them.
I had a long cab ride since I was heading towards an area across the bridge. There was a lot of traffic but the best thing about the cab ride is them figuring their way around the traffic. I was in London a while back and I new the best routes to some areas and 90% of all cab drivers take the legit way, the other 10% take a little longer so they get their extra money, but most of the cab drivers are honest opposite to contrary thought.
The new cabs have more comfortable seats and I can’t remember how many times I have fallen asleep in cabs when driving to or from the airport. I never put my foot up on the chair in front of me, that is one way to get the cab driver angry, they take care of their cabs so they take that as insult to them, the best part is that these cabs are clean. It is true that these cab rides are expensive and you can take a bus or the underground to any location, there is just something different about a black cab ride.
I was with the family at Harrods so I snuck off to the Waterstones and texted them where they could find me. Its the little jewel for me in the building, I can spend hours there and I wouldn’t really notice time passing by, it was on a Saturday and there were a lot of people there for some reason. I have a pattern when going into Waterstones, I check out the best seller list, then the new books, then the 3 for 2 books, then crime, and the best for last which is Science Fiction.
I wanted to get a lot of books but I held back since I was trying to remember which books I have in my basket on Amazon. I felt guilty since I haven’t even gone through the books I had. Last year I finished one book a year, but these days I would be lucky to finish one book every three months. So I felt guilty piling up more books, but its extremely hard to resist getting a good book. So what I did this time was to read through the first chapter of a few books that I was looking at while I was there, then I had to leave to meet up with family. At the same time I managed to snap away in the book store, I love that people don’t even notice me taking pictures even when I’m carrying a big camera. I look like a paparazzi guy that got lost in this section of the building when I should be looking for a celebrity, but nobody has ever stopped me from taking pictures which is great.
