Sony OLED...

sony-oled1.jpg

With there extremely high contrast ratio you never thought that screens could get any better then 1080P, but it seems that they are going for it within this year, even though they have only gone up to 27″ screens they are still extremely beautiful, bright, with the perfect depth of picture. I really can’t wait until they release OLEDs for laptops

Real Halo!...

haloreal1.jpg

I have to say that this is the coolest piece of news regarding Halo that I have seen in the past couple of months! Someone is really developing a Halo type suit for real combat and I would like to get my hands on it before Halo 3! I would be wearing this while playing Halo 3 because it makes me play even better!

720p vs. 1080i...

LG42.jpg

I have heard people giving reasons left and right why they should have things equiped at 1080i or 720p. I want to give a simple breakdown whats good for what. The main assumption when viewing either format is that your screen has a ratio of 16:9 which is optimal for either resoltuion. This is less of techinical breakdown and more for practical usage.

720P:
It has 720 lines progressivly scanned to the frame, so you see a total of 720 lines from the picture in front of you. Most sports broadcasts which are in HD are set at 720P because it shows fast moving motion very clearly. So for sports events, games, and high paced action games your better off at setting your machine to output at 720P.

1080i:
It is 1080 lines interlaced to produce a very beautiful image. The slight issue with 1080i is that HDTV sets must de-interlace the input to put it to screen. It all depends how well your screen can handle that process to produce the right image. For slow movies, and images 1080i is superior to 720P, but it may not be the best choice for movies with too much motion.

Now that 1080P is slowly becoming standard on the new LCD and Plasma screens all you have to make sure is that your DVD player and other electronic products output at that level. Even for DVDs which aren’t outputing at 1080P the screen resolution will look better overall.

Apple Success...

applestore.jpg

Over the past few years Apple has been getting more and more products rolled out like the iPod, iPod Shuffle, iPod Mini, iPod nano, Mac Mini, iMac, Mac Book, Mac Book Pro, and a lot more. This is just Apples product line, and these products have made Apple very trendy and successful, but there is more to it then just their products. What move their products is all the available accessories, I haven’t seen so many accessories for one product from so many different manufacturers.

Ipodgriffin.jpg

The iPod has more accessories then any other product currently out there. You can add it to your vehicle, have wireless connectivity, connect it to your home theater system, connect it a turn table system in a club with full integration, and those are just the ones currently coming out. You can see more and more accessories being released on Engadget for the use with an Apple Product.

Belkin has already jumped the gun and has accessories ready for the Apple iPhone. [Link]

Apple has expanded their products past computers and entering the electronics market. They know this so much that Apple has dropped the word “Computer” from their name and has now become “Apple, Inc”. What is in store for Apple, only time can tell. I’m for one looking forward to the new OS (Leopard), and I want to try it on an Apple product later on this year. Its only a matter of time until Apple gets their product in every home.

Apple iPhone...

appleiphone1.jpg

Here it is people! At last what a lot of people have been waiting for, the Apple iPhone! It has no buttons and runs OS X. It will allow you to use Google Maps, Widgets, and of course iTunes. It might have 4GB or 8GB memory, with quad band GSM and EDGE. This is a very fully featured phone, and there is no stylus to click on the screen. It is pretty damn thin with all the features and its being priced at $599. Its supposed to come out in June, so I’m betting there is going to be long lines at all the Apple Stores coming June.

It looks great and has a lot of features, but like the Apple iPod when it first came out I’m assuming it might have a lot of bugs. I think they have a good product on their hands, but I wouldn’t buy the first generation.

1 TB Hard Drives...

deskstar_7k1000.jpg

Hitachi has gotten there first! They have made the first 1 TB Hard Drives to be used by us consumers! The latest ones were at 750 GB and now that the limit has been passed we shall see what other manufacturers come up with. I love when they make bigger hard drives. It just means more and more redunancy and more space to store whatever you have, it also means you wont be deleting much. I just can’t get enough space and this news made me smile when I read it.

Consumer Electronics Show...

This is probably one of the best conventions out there for the gadget freak. Every possible manufacturer will be debuting their new products and new technology they will be rolling out later in the year. Every gadget you can imagine and more then your eye can see and you would probably max out your credit cards and empty out all your savings and you still wouldn’t get all you want. The best thing about it is getting you hands on all the gadgets and getting to play around as well as all the fantastic anouncements. If you ever get a chance to go then you should go.

It takes place at the beginning of every year at the Las Vegas Convention Center, and below is the general topics which are covered.

  • Audio
  • Emerging Technology
  • Gaming
  • High Performance Audio and Home Theater
  • Home Networking
  • Home Theater and Video
  • More Electronics
  • Wireless

I just hope to be able to go one day.

Fuel Cell Battery...

samsung-fuel-cell-q35.jpg

It seems like Samsung is already developing fuel cell docking stations. And it can power the laptop for over 15 hours and if they can develop this technology soon that would be fantastic. I can only imagine how efficient it would be over the next year or two of development. I just hope they get this technology to consumers soon.

USB Laser Guided Missle Launcher...

rocket_launcher_v2_desk.jpg

This is what is in the description of the main product!!

The USB Laser Guided Missile Launcher will empower you to unleash something akin to total office annihilation.

For $55 you can have the office annihialator. I think this is probably the best office gift you can give! Seriously I want this and I want to try it! You can control the launching mechanism with your PC and aim with the built-in laser pointer. I think this can cause major Havoc! I like that! I think every office should have at least one.

Review: Netgear Gigabit Wireless Router...

NetgearGigabit.jpg

Netgear WNR854T

Postives:

  • Very Clean looking
  • Has never hung on me after extreme downloading on torrent and wireless streaming
  • Gigabit transfer between wired pc and NAS was excellent. I was transferring 10 to 15 GBs in under 9 minutes.
  • Interface can be used by a person with basic networking knowledge and advanced networking knowledge very easy to configure.
  • Has a lot of features including access list for wireless, DMZ, port forwarding, and most standard features.

Negatives:

  • Wireless powerful only in close range meaning within 15 meters of it, I go roaming at list 25 meters away. Needs antenna to strengthen signal but no where to insert the connection if wanted.
  • Price is still a bit high around $140
  • You have to get Netgear solution to work the Pre-N settings, so no real benefit there.

Note: You must use CAT6e cables to get the best wired performance.
