Review: Green Lantern...

A test pilot is granted a mystical green ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe.

I have been waiting to see this movie for a very long time and I was not disappointed. Ryan Reynolds made Hal Jordan his own character and did a great job with it. For any comic fan they will know the story and they do stick to the original Green Lantern story and with some very nice special effects and graphics. I loved how they portrayed the Green Lantern and the Lantern Core, but I would have liked to meet a few more of the Green Lanterns and get used to their characters but they tried to keep it revolving around Hal Jordan. It was a bit slow at first since he is discovering the powers and what he can do but once the action picked up it was amazing. To those who follow the Green Lantern animated movies we do know what is next for the movie but I hope they do something very different since they already introduced the character and for Green Lantern they don’t need to stick to Earth or any one setting. Fun movie and loved the action, and especially the suit.

Review: 13 Assassins...

Based on actual events that served as the inspiration for the 1963 film of the same name, Takashi Miike’s 13 Assassins follows a group of noble samurai as they seek to slay a tyrannical, politically connected lord before he seizes control of the entire country. Japan, 1844: as the era of the samurai winds to a close, a sadistic young lord uses his powerful political ties to commit heinous atrocities against the common people. Recognizing the dangers to both his country and its citizens should the lord manage to gain any more power, a concerned government official secretly recruits 13 of the most skilled swordsmen he can find to defeat the evil lord once and for all.

Samurai in the Gentlemen era, and men have to take steps to protect the honor of the people. It takes a while to build through the occasionally dull and hard-to-follow historical exposition of the over-talky opening scenes. But once the Seven-Samurai-style band of brothers is assembled, 13 Assassins is pure pleasure: and it culminates in a magnificent 45-minute showdown that has to be the best final battle sequence in cinema since, oh, Kill Bill at least. A bit of a slow start but once the action begins you won’t think of anything else, 13 men stand against an army. This movie is not for people who can’t take the sight of blood and gore, it isn’t Tarantino style but it gets messy.

Review: Sanctum...

An underwater cave diving team experiences a life-threatening crisis during an expedition to the unexplored and least accessible cave system in the world.

I tend to like movies like these, I’m always curious about caves such as these and long dives. I always wonder what drives people to go to caves such as these, and it looked interesting since it was produced by James Cameron. Something goes wrong in the cave and they have to survive through the ordeal. I expected this movie to be better and a little bit more exciting, honestly I prefer the movie The Descent over Sanctum, you get thrilling feeling as well as dealing with Monsters.

Review: Iron Man – Anime...

Plot Summary: Tony Stark is a physicist, an engineer, and the CEO of a major arms manufacturing company. On a battlefield he is injured from his own weapons and taken prisoner by terrorists. In order to keep his own heart beating, he creates the Ironman Suit and escapes. Once free, Stark decides to dedicate his life to pursuing world peace with the Ironman technology, so he moves to Japan to use the resources of “Lab 23,” home of the world’s first Arc Reactor. Wanting to devote himself fully to this research, Stark decides to retire as Ironman and announce the mass-production of suits to fulfill his duties. But at the announcement ceremony he is attacked by the mysterious organization known as “Zodiac,” and his plans have to change.

Iron Man is one the best characters out of Marvel at this moment and Marvel have taken their best step yet to turn it into an Anime. Its the first to be done for a show to go from American origins to Japanese Animation, most of the time it goes from Japanese to American cartoons. And I think they did a fantastic job with Iron Man, loved the characters and all the robots and how they made Tony Stark in the Anime. I flew through the 12 episodes and wanted a lot more, they made it a darker story in the Anime and that is one of the best qualities of it, there is an enemy in the background and it gets interesting. I can’t wait for more Marvel Anime shows!

Review: SuperFreakonomics – Global...

Four years ago, you were cool. You read Freakonomics when it first came out. You impressed family and friends and dazzled dates with the insights you gleaned. Now Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner return with Superfreakonomics, a freakquel even bolder, funnier, and more surprising than the first.

After the first book I couldn’t wait to read SuperFreakonomics, the first one shocked and entertained me so I was looking forward to this one. What’s fun about SuperFreakonomics is that it makes you think about a lot of “truths” that we take for granted, this book actually made me change some of my thinking about global warming. The book is very interesting, and lots of information that you’d be hard-pressed to find in your typical daily reading; and, it “sexes-up” the fields of microeconomics and behavioral economics. It was an enjoyable read and looking into the different topics but this time around it isn’t the work of Dunber but the works of other people and his other angle when looking at it. I had very high expectations after the first book but it didn’t measure up in comparison to the first one, it didn’t connect everything together as much and the style of writing was just very different between each article. Its an interesting look into behavioral economics and microeconomics but thats about it.

Young Justice...

Don’t call them sidekicks! Young Justice follows the adventures of the teenaged superheroes Aqualad, Robin, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian, and Artemis , who have finally gained independence from their leaders and the privilege to start their own covert operations team with the Justice League.

Warner Brothers and DC Comics brought us another amazing animated show, for any fan of Justice League and Justice Leauge Unlimited you must watch this. The animation is similar to the previous shows and I really like the style of it. The intro to the show is bad ass, I really like the characters in the show and I like where it is going. There is unknown enemy working in the background, something is going on, I really want to see more episodes and luckily its only at the 9th episode and going.

Review: Thor...

The powerful but arrogant warrior Thor is cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard and sent to live amongst humans on Earth, where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders.

Marvel did not disappoint with Thor, they really went all out to make sure this movie doesn’t disappoint. Chris Hemsworth was the perfect Thor, attitude and look, and he did look like a God of Thunder in that suit. Anthony Hopkins played the perfect Odin, the All Mighty Father of Asgard. You get a lot of story in a short movie, you get a touch of Asgard, The Destroyer from Asgard, and a lot of the comics. Honestly I really enjoyed the movie and there is a lot to love, the battle scenes were perfect for Thor and how he fights in the comics. I will look forward to the next Marvel Movies coming up and how they are going to tie it all up together.

Review: Paul...

For the past 60 years, an alien named Paul has been hanging out at a top-secret military base. For reasons unknown, the space-traveling smart ass decides to escape the compound and hop on the first vehicle out of town — a rented RV containing Earthlings Graeme Willy and Clive Collings.

Simon Peg and Eric Frost are comedy GENIUSES! I love their work in every movie and these guys really put their heart into it. A couple of nerds going to every comic/nerd/geek stop in America and an alien falls into their lap. And Seth Rogen as the alien Paul just adds to hilarity of this amazing combination of actors. I don’t want to ruin the movie but its a must see.

Review: Hellsing Ultimate...

Plot Summary: Vampires exist. It is the duty of Hellsing, a secret organization sponsored by the British government, to hide that frightening fact and protect the blissfully unaware populace. Along with its own personal army, Hellsing has secret weapons. Alucard, an incredibly powerful vampire, has been controlled by Hellsing for years. It is unclear how he feels about being a servant to the Hellsing family, but he certainly enjoys his job as a vampire exterminator. Seras is a fledgling vampire and former police woman. Although reluctant to embrace her new self, she is a valued member of the organization. Integra Hellsing, the current leader, is usually fully capable of fulfilling her duty, but lately, vampire activity has been on the rise. Unfortunately, the cause is more alarming than anything she could have imagined. A group long thought dead has been plotting in secret since their apparent destruction over 50 years ago. Plotting to plunge England, and perhaps the entire world, into war.

Not for one with an uneasy stomach, this is one of the more gory anime out there and a very good story. I first watched Hellsing back in 2004 and then a few years later this came out which was a little more intense and a crazier story. For those who enjoy anime this is one of the better ones out there and you will enjoy Alucard the main vampire in the story, he redefines evil.

Review: Scream 4...

I never thought this series could get more over the top then it did, and I thought the third movies was the end of it. I know, its Scream 4! I just couldn’t resist going to this movie, and I was laughing more then I was freaked. The movie just got so ridiculous I couldn’t believe that they took it this route and it entertained only slightly. I gave it two starts because of the funny way the black cop died!
