Review: Project X...

3 high school seniors throw a birthday party to make a name for themselves. As the night progresses, things spiral out of control as word of the party spreads.

It starts off as one thing between three friends, Thomas Kub, Costa, and JB and turns into a monster that they could not handle. Its sort of Blair Witch Project meets American Pie/The Hangover. If you want a comedy that doesn’t require much thought and you don’t mind the camera giving you a minor seizure then this movie is a must see. No animals were harmed while making this movie but a lot people probably were.

Review: Brave 10...

Plot Summary: A year before the battle of Sekigahara that ended the Sengoku Period, the ninja Saizou Kirigakure meets the miko Nami Isa as she’s attacked by assassins. Her shrine was destroyed by Tokugawa Ieyasu for siding with Yukimura Sanada. Meanwhile, Sanada has been gathering ten warriors known as Sanada’s Brave 10, who have the power to change history. As they gather one by one, Nami’s own mysterious power awakens.

Ninjas, Samurais, thrown into a political battle of lords, and 10 different fighters who somehow end up in Yukimura Sanada’s camp. The story is pretty good with a good amount of comedy and suspense thrown into the mix, and who doesn’t like when Ninja’s and Samurai start fighting. Isanami is one of the more interesting characters and her power’s seem to be showing themselves as things get worse for the 10. Its a fun anime that started off great but lacked a bit of substance, still it was a lot of fun to watch, I hope this story gets another season.

Review: Mazinkaizer SKL...

The latest installment of one of the most popular Anime series around the world. Above Japan waits Remuria, a colossal floating islandleftover from the last world war. It s a lawless wasteland of robot super-weapons from a forgotten age of military might. Receiving word that the unstable island s reactors might explode and vaporize Japan at any time, the Japanese government awakens the most destructive force ever devised MazinKaiser!

This 3 episode OVA is AWESOME, no other words can describe it. The story of this OVA is very weak and there’s barely any character development, but what this OVA lacks in story and character development, it makes up for with probably the Most Awesome Mecha fight scenes that are almost as amazing as the mecha fight scenes in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. The story here is really just an excuse to show these Awesome fight scenes and that alone is enough to overlook the OVA’s flaws and consider it to be one of the best OVAs I have seen in a while.. Now if you want a mecha show that has a deep story with strong character development and where the Mech’s have a more significant meaning to the show’s story, then this OVA is not for you, but if you want some Hardcore Mech fight scenes, than this OVA is definitely for you. Now I remember why I loved Mazinger Z, Mazinkaiser, and Grendaizer as a kid, these amazing fights make me want to jump right into the robot. Lets hope they come up with a continuation or more episodes.

Review: The Hunger Games...

Set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister’s place for the latest match.

So much hype went into this movie, I didn’t know what people were so crazy about this movie, for some reason it had the hype just like Harry Potter, and they have two more books so it seems that two more movies are coming along. I really liked the main actor, Katniss Everdeen, she has attitude and it looks like the story will be developing because she keeps changing the rules and the game. The story is interesting but the characters are even better, and the world its based on seems familiar so I can see how this will develop to another movie franchise but isn’t bigger then Harry Potter thats for sure.

Review: Machine Man – Max Barry...

Scientist Charles Neumann loses a leg in an industrial accident. It’s not a tragedy. It’s an opportunity. Charlie always thought his body could be better. He begins to explore a few ideas. To build parts. Better parts.

Prosthetist Lola Shanks loves a good artificial limb. In Charlie, she sees a man on his way to becoming artificial everything. But others see a madman. Or a product. Or a weapon.

A story for the age of pervasive technology, Machine Man is a gruesomely funny unraveling of one man’s quest for ultimate self-improvement.

Max Barry is one of my favorite authors he knows how to tie corporate humor with science fiction, and I do enjoy his wit that you can tell through the characters of his book. You think you are inside the mind of the main character who in this case is Dr Charles Neumann, and all he cares about is science and getting his machines and experiments together. Its a hilarious point of view between scientists and managers, and excluding the limitations of government. He never felt emotion before but as his experiments and inventions progressed he might Lola and things started confusing his logic. This book is light, entertaining and fully grasps your attention, I flew through it and was surprised about the ending, I can’t wait for another book from Max Barry.

Review: Sengoku Basara II...

The second season witnesses the emergence of Toyotomi Hideyoshi as the next potential unifier of the land, through only strength and brute force he plans to unify the land of the rising sun. Sanada Yukimura and Date Masamune have their own battles to fight to stop Hideyoshi from destroying Japan.

Just the battle’s from Sengoku Basara pull you in, and the first season this show made me go nuts, it was fantastic. I was hooked from day 1, the animation penmanship was so detailed, the fight scene’s were brutally and powerfully animated and each fight scene was different. After the first series had finished, I waited for a serious amount of time for this second season to arrive. Sengoku Basara Ni, kept everything at a vantage point from its predecessor, the full blitz and blown out battle field wielding all its former glory of hack and slash action was everything I waited for. I’ve watched it to the glorious end, and I truly recommend this for anyone who’s looking for a climatic story with fierce competition, and I’m hoping for another season soon because the story is too good to end here.

Review: John Carter...

Transplanted to Mars, a Civil War vet discovers a lush planet inhabited by 12-foot tall barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter a princess who is in desperate need of a savior.

I didn’t know what the total story of the movie was but I knew I wanted to watch it and Disney spent a lot of money making it. Science Fiction Fantasy with a few cowboys make for a very good movie, the action picks up from the start and everything keeps coming together. John Carter is an interesting character and finding himself in a very tough spot between warring nations, and also it helps that he seemed to have developed superpowers while he is on Mars. Its an entertaining movie and it seems that critics are a bit too harsh on it, if you are looking for a fun movie then this is it.

Review: Heroes Of The Valley – Jon...

Halli Sveinsson has grown up in the House of Svein, listening to the legends of the heroes as all his forefathers did. His is a peaceful society where the violence of the past has been outlawed and disputes are settled by the Council. But young Halli has never quite seemed to fit in with the others. For starters, he was not at all handsome or tall, like his attractive blond siblings. He’s stumpy and swarthy, with a quick mind and aptitude for getting in trouble. Bored with the everyday chores and sheep herding, he can’t help himself from playing practical jokes on everyone, from Eyjolf the old servant, to his brother and sister. But when he plays a trick on Ragnor of the House of Hakonsson, he goes too far, setting in motion a chain of events that will forever alter his destiny. Because of it, Halli will have to leave home and go on a hero’s quest. Along the way, he will encounter highway robbers, terrifying monsters, and a girl who may finally be his match. In the end, he will discover the truth about the legends, his family, and himself.

I have always been a fan of Jonathan Stroud since his Barthalemous book trilogy which really pulled me in, I was expecting a book just as good as those set. And this book was in the young adult section and I honestly don’t care as long as its a good well written story, so I started reading it and getting more and more into it. A Valley with only certain number of tribes and one young man who is determined to find his own path. After reading the book I just felt that it just didn’t live up to my expectations, its not a bad book but I wish I didn’t waste my time on it since there are a lot of better books out there and I have on a pile waiting to go.

Trent – IMP1000 Mobile Charger...

This is the 4th Generation USB power bank for the latest iPad 3 “the new ipad” and iPad 2. It will never let your smart phones and Tablet PCs run out of battery. This compact and ultra long-lasting backup battery will be your perfect power solution on the go. When you travel, there’s no need to charge your devices through an electrical outlet, the iCruiser IMP1000 is the ultimate power source!

These days these amazing phones barely last 10 hours in a day, previously the Nokias and Ericssons would last a good 3 to 4 days before need a charge, I remember I would have just one charger but now I have to have a charger in the office, in the car, in the hallway, in every room, its ridiculous. Phone technology has advanced so much yet batteries haven’t changed much in the last two decades. Since I tend to travel a lot for work one of the things I get annoyed with is my phone running out of battery half way through a full day, and so after doing a bit of research the Trent 11000 was my choice and a great one at that. I charge the phones usually on the plane when I’m not using them, and that hour or two of charging brings it back to 100%. The Trent IMP1000 is like redbull but for electronics, it keeps giving it that kick. There are smaller versions but I opted for the larger one to charge my Kindle or iPad as well as my phones.

Pros:

  • USB connection, so you can connect any type of wire to it, MicroUSD, MacroUSB, Apple, anything really
  • Can charge your phone several times over
  • I charged it 3 months ago and it still has a very large amount of charge, doesn’t dissipate battery when not used
  • Charges Phones very quickly (iPhone & Android)
  • Charges iPads relatively quickly

Cons:

  • Its Bulky
  • Slow to Charge Itself
  • Its a Bit Heavy

Review: All-Star Superman...

While saving the crew of the first manned mission to the sun, Superman is poisoned by solar radiation. Dying, he decides to fulfill his lifelong dreams, while still saving the Earth from various threats. But when Lex Luthor reveals his latest plot to control the world, Superman must use his remaining strength to stop him.

All Star Superman is something a little different from the Superman storyline, and the animation is different from what I’m used to from DC Comics, I was hoping for a good story and a lot of action. The story just wasn’t consistent, it kept building up and jumping too far and then changing, it didn’t keep my interest even though I wanted to like. Towards the end a few things came together and I liked how the story played out but because it was so broken up you just don’t get any depth with the characters, feels like you are in some sort of ground hogs day and it plays back in a different way. By the end I liked the animation and gave it a nice richness to the characters but since the story line felt a bit disrupted it just didn’t pull me.
