Review: Shutter Island...

One of those movies which had a lot of hype, a Scorsese movie which had to be seen. Its been a while since I have seen De Caprio in a movie so I was looking forward to it. All I kept hearing was that it was so good, an action thriller movie that had to be seen. De Caprio plays the Federal Detective just after World War 2 going to a psychiatric ward/prison who has a missing person. The settings is a creepy prison which is an old civil war barracks, and these people are treated their, really eerie with a storm coming in. De Caprio and his partner have to find out whats going in this place. The movie kept getting more and more interesting, you think you know where is going, clues are coming together, you are waiting for a big climax and all the pieces to come together. What happens is that it takes a different twist and you just don’t feel satisfied with the ending, I left the movie feeling a bit unsatisfied. It was going at a certain pace and the ending wasn’t the bang I was expecting, its still good Scorsese movie but not one I would watch again.

The Losers – Trailer...

Synopsis:

An explosive action tale of betrayal and revenge, “The Losers” centers around the members of an elite Special Forces unit sent to the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. But the team–Clay, Jensen, Roque, Pooch and Cougar–soon find that they have become the target of a deadly double cross, instigated from the inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max.

Making good use of the fact that they are now presumed dead, the group goes deep undercover in a dangerous plot to clear their names and even the score with Max. They are joined by the mysterious Aisha, a beautiful operative with her own agenda, who is more than capable of scoring a few points of her own. Working together, when they’re not arguing amongst themselves, they have to stay one step ahead of the globetrotting Max–a ruthless man bent on embroiling the world in a new high-tech global war for his own benefit. If they can take down Max and save the world at the same time, it’ll be a win-win for the team now known as The Losers

This looks like a fantastic movie, there is never enough movies about fighting, getting revenge, and a lot of ass kicking going around. Starring Zoe Salanda as the ass kicking hotty (formely in Avatar), and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Idris Elba, Columbus Short, Oscar Jaenada and Chris Evans. A great bunch of actors making for an elite team of warriors out to extract their revenge and blowing up a lot of things on the way. April 23rd it will be out in Theaters!

The Other Guys – Trailer...

Detective Allen Gamble is a forensic accountant who’s more interested in paperwork than hitting the streets. Detective Terry Hoitz is a tough guy who has been stuck with Allen as his partner ever since an unfortunate run-in with Derek Jeter. Allen and Terry idolize the city’s top cops, Danson and Highsmith, but when an opportunity arises for the Other Guys to step up, things don’t quite go as planned.

Mark Walhberg, Will Ferrel, Samuel L Jackson, and Dwayne Johnson! How can this movie not be fantastic! I love Will Ferrel in these movies!

Minutes @ KNCC...

Censhorship1

After watching the last movie, Repo Man, at cinescape I wanted to check the online runtime compared to the KNCC runtime and they were identical. It looks like KNCC caught on to people comparing times and telling if the movie is butchered or not. People walked out of Date Time with Steve Carrel and Tina Fey saying that 50% of the movie was missing, it was probably an hour and five minutes no more then that.

Again I go back to my simple rule, if there is a movie you want to see try watching it else where, except if its an animated movie there would be little to cut then you can watch it in Kuwait. These movies were butchered to the point one lost you and the other was a jump between images with 50% of it gone.

Review: Repo Man...

Working for the Union as a Repo Man is a very simple job, if people don’t make their payments you take back what they bought. In this case what they buy are organs to keep them alive longer or replace a problematic organ. Remy (Jude Law) is the best of the best, cleanly taking out organs and bringing them back to be resold. An interesting story with an interesting twist towards the middle, Jude Law play an interesting character, a clean cut repo man. He ends up with an artificial heart because of an incident, now he has to pay the Union like everyone else. The movie has some very interesting twists and lots of action, a lot of fun. But watching in Kuwait wouldn’t be advisable since they butcher the movie to the point that you don’t know whats going on at times, things just don’t come together. I can understand sex scenes being cut but the amount that was cut was ridiculous, this movie isn’t a porno its an action thriller. Overall I liked the movie, probably going to see it again once I have a normal version but I wouldn’t watch it in Kuwait.

Review: The Collector...

A man wants to rob a home to save his family, but what he finds in the home isn’t just the loot but a monster waiting to take people apart. A house full of traps and you don’t know where the next person is going to die, and how he sets the traps you don’t know. What an insane movie, pretty gruesome with an interesting story line, a monster who likes to collect humans as objects, going from house to house. Its got a SAWish feel to it but he is a different kind of monster, and the chase starts in the house for the poor burgler (Josh Stuart) who falls into this trap and tries to stay one step ahead of him while trying to save the family of the house. Its one of those movies you know its going to make you jump out of your seat, I enjoyed it, sometimes a good scare is a lot of fun.

Dinner for Schmucks – Trailer...

Dinner for Schmucks tells the story of Tim (Paul Rudd), a guy on the verge of having it all. The only thing standing between him and total career success is finding the perfect guest to bring to his boss’ annual Dinner for Extraordinary People, an event where the winner of the evening brings the most eccentric character as his guest. Enter Barry (Steve Carell), a guy with a passion for dressing mice up in tiny outfits to recreate great works of art. From Jay Roach, director of “Meet the Parents” and “Meet the Fockers” comes an unforgettable feast about two unlikely friends and one very memorable dinner.

This movie is hilarious! The cast is fantastic! My two favorite comedians are in it Steve Carell and Zach Galifianakis (Hungover), these guys are hilarious in the movie.

SALT – Trailer...

As a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt (Jolie) swore an oath to duty, honor and country. Her loyalty will be tested when a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy. Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture. Salt’s efforts to prove her innocence only serve to cast doubt on her motives, as the hunt to uncover the truth behind her identity continues and the question remains: “Who Is Salt?”

Looks like Angelina is playing her perfect role again, ass kicking woman in a crazy action flick, you don’t know whats going own until the end. Seems to be her own version of the Bourne Identity, I know I’m going to be watching this movie when I have a chance.

Review: Green Zone...

Discovering covert and faulty intelligence causes U.S. Army Officer Roy Miller to go rogue as he hunts for Weapons of Mass Destruction in an unstable situation. The situation is based on the US Military just as they defeated Iraq in 2004, they are liberated but the country is unstable and some army guys are getting fed up with the bad intel and put in dangerous situations. An action packed movie from the beginning to end, trying to tell the story of the bureaucrats and the guys on the ground, covering up bad intelligence which led to the invasion of Iraq. A nicely thought out movie, and General Al Rawi is the same guy who plays Saddam in House of Saddam. Hollywood has learned to pick the right actors to speak the language and the whole movie fit together nicely. Greengrass is also the director of the Bourne movies, he knows how to make this type of movie work and Matt Damon knows how to work with him. An action packed movie telling a good story about the truth of the actions that took place in the Green Zone.

Cinema VIP Theaters...

Watching movies is one of my favorite past times, all kinds of movies, there is no question that I like going to the movie theaters to see some amazing movies. At times I want to go watch those movies at the VIP section which might have more comfortable seats or better sound or more secluded then other theaters. I have tried a few theaters in the Middle East and Europe, but for Middle East I wanted to do a ranking and the reasons why each one is good or could be improved

Cinema VIP Theater Ranking(Out of 10):

  • Reel Cinemas (9)
  • Cinestar Dubai (8)
  • Cinescape KNCC (6)

Reel Cinemas

  • Best Service
  • Comfortable Large Lazy Boy Chairs
  • Electronic Chair Controls
  • The Chair Extends All The Way To Be Flat
  • Button To Call For Service (Actually Works)
  • Chairs Vibrate With The Effects which is fantastic
  • Very Large Screen and State of the Art Theater Sound System

Cinestar Dubai

  • More food selection
  • Comfortable Large Lazy Boy Chairs
  • Manual Chair Controls
  • The Chair Extends all the way to be flat, but requires an extra push
  • Button to Call for Service but its always broken
  • Very Large Screen with Decent Sound

Cinescape KNCC

  • Stiff Leather Seats, comfortable but after a while feels uncomfortable
  • Doesn’t lean back all the way so you don’t feel as comfortable
  • Electronic Seats which are good
  • The Screen for the VIP is very small
  • The sound is only good for the people sitting in the middle row, the edge seats don’t have good sound at all
  • The food is stale and usually pretty bad, sad excuse for popcorn

Overall between all the cinemas Reel Cinemas is fantastic and I still enjoy Cinestar Dubai, but with Cinestar KNCC I prefer to go to the regular cinema because of the much larger screen and better screen, the VIP I go to if I don’t want to be bother by the crowd.
