Review: How I Spent My Summer Vacation...

A career criminal (Gibson) nabbed by Mexican authorities is placed in a tough prison where he learns to survive with the help of a 9-year-old boy.

Funny enough this movie was named “Get The Gringo” in the US which I think is much better then the long “How I Spent My Summer Vacation” I didn’t have a clue what this movie was about except that Mel Gibson was in it. I saw a short preview and didn’t know what to expect, but I was surprised, this movie turned out to be really good. I know that Mel Gibson was shunned by Hollywood for going a bit nuts but he is still one bad ass in the movies, and he did a fantastic job with this character. In jail he has the perfect facial expressions for funny moments in a stressful situations, the guy pulled it off and this movie just proves that he is still a damn good actor. Plus the plot in this movie is unpredictable, and it gives you an insight in the Mexican prison system.

Review: Battleship...

A fleet of ships is forced to do battle with an armada of unknown origins in order to discover and thwart their destructive goals.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this movie since I was trying to not watch any trailers since I knew it was going to be fun. This is the type of movie you go into expecting to enjoy yourself and walk out with a smile. Honestly this movie turned out to be a better then I expected, I really enjoyed the action, lots of it all over the places. Aliens vs. Battleships and a bit of the Battleship board game idea thrown into the mix. Liam Neeson plays the bad ass admiral in the movie, he is always good at any role he plays, and Taylor Kitsch plays Alex Hopper as the man who always screws up because of his hot head, he is the guy from Friday Night Lights, always liked him. Fun cast for this movie and played out pretty well, a fun movie to watch.

Review: Project X...

3 high school seniors throw a birthday party to make a name for themselves. As the night progresses, things spiral out of control as word of the party spreads.

It starts off as one thing between three friends, Thomas Kub, Costa, and JB and turns into a monster that they could not handle. Its sort of Blair Witch Project meets American Pie/The Hangover. If you want a comedy that doesn’t require much thought and you don’t mind the camera giving you a minor seizure then this movie is a must see. No animals were harmed while making this movie but a lot people probably were.

Starship Troopers – Invasion ̵...

The original Starship Troopers came out 15 years ago and I really did love it, even though watching it now it was a bit cheesy but it was a damn good action Sci Fi for the 90s. Theatrically the first one didn’t do too well, but it still had its fans and the sequels to it were a bit of disaster but this animated movie looks pretty good. This is the first animated feature for it and I think they did a pretty good job based on the trailer and I’m hoping it will be even better.

Total Recall – Trailer...

The official trailer for Total Recall starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bryan Cranston, John Cho and Bill Nighy. As the nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai vie for supremacy, a factory worker (Farrell) begins to suspect that he’s a spy, though he is unaware which side of the fight he’s on.

From the original Total Recall with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 90s they went and remade into a film with Colin Farrel and I really like just based on the trailer, I honestly forgot that this movie was even coming and now I’m excited. It looks like they took a lot of the good elements of the old one and still building an interesting story, remember Sharon Stone was in the original, she did play a great role in it. Schwarzenegger was king of the movies in the 80s and 90s.

Batman – 1989 Batmobile...

There is no arguing how iconic the original Tim Burton-era Batman was, and what the Batmobile meant to us back then. And this was revived with Christoper Nolan’s interpretation of Batman turning him into the dark and gritty super hero that he is. The new Batmobile is a monster machine indeed but there is no denying the beauty of the Michael Keaton’s machine. And this one is developed by Side Show Collectibles with the utmost details.

At 39 inches it’s well over three feet long (Approximately 1 meter), making the collectible a 1/6th-scale version of the original. And at that size there’s plenty of room to pack in the details like working lighting, a dashboard full of miniature instruments and dials, removable machine guns, and even the cocoon armor that everyone wishes their car had. I honestly couldn’t resist it and placed the a preorder on it through AlterEgoComics since they are a fantastic company to deal with for all types of Collectibles and Models. Now I just have to wait until 2013 to find a place for this lovely machine.

Review: The Hunger Games...

Set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister’s place for the latest match.

So much hype went into this movie, I didn’t know what people were so crazy about this movie, for some reason it had the hype just like Harry Potter, and they have two more books so it seems that two more movies are coming along. I really liked the main actor, Katniss Everdeen, she has attitude and it looks like the story will be developing because she keeps changing the rules and the game. The story is interesting but the characters are even better, and the world its based on seems familiar so I can see how this will develop to another movie franchise but isn’t bigger then Harry Potter thats for sure.

Review: John Carter...

Transplanted to Mars, a Civil War vet discovers a lush planet inhabited by 12-foot tall barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter a princess who is in desperate need of a savior.

I didn’t know what the total story of the movie was but I knew I wanted to watch it and Disney spent a lot of money making it. Science Fiction Fantasy with a few cowboys make for a very good movie, the action picks up from the start and everything keeps coming together. John Carter is an interesting character and finding himself in a very tough spot between warring nations, and also it helps that he seemed to have developed superpowers while he is on Mars. Its an entertaining movie and it seems that critics are a bit too harsh on it, if you are looking for a fun movie then this is it.

This Week’s Movie Line Up...

So many movies so little time, this is the list of movies that I have recently downloaded, a few good blockbusters and a few interseting movies that I haven’t had a good look at yet. I want to watch Underworld Awakening since I have always been a fan of the movie series since the original Underworld, and I’m a big fan of Kate Bakinsale. Then if I feel like a ridiculous movie then The Legend of the Awesomest Maximus is at the top of this list, and a dirty comedy would be The Sitter. I wish I had the time to finish all the movies I have piled up.

  • Underworld Awakening
  • One For The Money
  • Carnage
  • Colombus Circle
  • Machine Gun Preacher
  • The Descendents
  • Sket
  • The Muppets
  • We Bought A Zoo
  • Dark Tide
  • Seeking Justice
  • The Awakening
  • The Legend of Awesomest Maximus
  • The Sitter
  • Young Adult

Review: All-Star Superman...

While saving the crew of the first manned mission to the sun, Superman is poisoned by solar radiation. Dying, he decides to fulfill his lifelong dreams, while still saving the Earth from various threats. But when Lex Luthor reveals his latest plot to control the world, Superman must use his remaining strength to stop him.

All Star Superman is something a little different from the Superman storyline, and the animation is different from what I’m used to from DC Comics, I was hoping for a good story and a lot of action. The story just wasn’t consistent, it kept building up and jumping too far and then changing, it didn’t keep my interest even though I wanted to like. Towards the end a few things came together and I liked how the story played out but because it was so broken up you just don’t get any depth with the characters, feels like you are in some sort of ground hogs day and it plays back in a different way. By the end I liked the animation and gave it a nice richness to the characters but since the story line felt a bit disrupted it just didn’t pull me.
