Customs & The Run Around...

txsr875silverlrg1.jpg

The customs run around, this has been ridiculous, I have never seen this much stupidity in so many different government institutions in Kuwait.

  • Sunday: Receiver arrived in Kuwait
  • Monday: Customs require original reciept, which they have, then they ask for the original brochure. 1 pm they close.
  • Tuesday: They didn’t get to my items until the afternoon, then they asked for MOC Clearance (Ifraag), by that time MOC is closed.
  • Wednesday: Submitted paper work for ifraag, and they said it takes one day and they were asking why the item was so big for a satelite receiver, they don’t understand what a Home Theater Receiver is.
  • Thursday: MOC says the paper isn’t signed come back Sunday
  • Sunday:MOC Not signed yet
  • Monday:MOC signed, Customs guy sees the product then says its ok, but then asks for clearance from Ministry Of Information. So paper work and the product goes to MOI.
  • Tuesday: Took the paperwork to them and they said that they can’t release the product since they haven’t seen one like that in Kuwait.
  • Wednesday: Argued with Ministry Of Information and got Clearance (Shouting Helps). I have the product with me just need some stamps from MOI and Customs and its mine by the end of the Thursday. (I hope)

They are all a bunch of idiots that need to be slapped around.

Customs and More!!...

txsr875silverlrg.jpg

I really don’t know what customs do on a daily basis, all they do is stop shipments and nothing else.

I have bought the Onkyo TX-SR875 from Dubai since it was cheaper then buying it from the UK, and Alghanim Electronics don’t do anything useful with their brands.

The shipment arrived in Kuwait on Saturday, and they have stopped the shipment saying that its too heavy to be one piece of equipment. And then they are asking if it has a card slot for tv stations or if it can make phone calls, these guys are idiots. When I made it clear that it doesn’ t do any of that and it basically a audio/video reciever for the home they asked to get my MOC clearance, and I explained to them that I don’t even have a landline in my name, they said I need to prove that.

This process has taken over 4 days and they are really idiots, its driving me nuts. I’m hoping that I get my items by the morning if possible. They are stopping all shipments these days, I really don’t understand, if they want to do something they should just charge the 5% and move on.

Kuwait Shooting Range – Rifles...

img_-008.jpg

I had the sudden urge the other day to go to the gun range, so I called up every person that I thought who might be interested to go. It was the same day that Bush came to town so there was traffic everywhere and the people who decided to go were coming from every direction. It took us about an hour and half to get together when usually it takes only 20 minutes. I also managed to miss one turn so I had to go back to get to the Equestrian Club which is next to the shooting range, the way I was driving I was going no where fast.

img_-007.jpg

After finally getting to the gun range in this adventure we gave our civil IDs or any form of ID we had at the time to the Guard so that we would enter. We walked straight down and we were all pumped up to go to the rifle shooting range to do some sniping, living the role of the sniper. We picked the 22m hornet bullets since they are of a decent size and I liked that rifle, hits the target on the mark and you feel like a king.

img_-012.jpg

For 10 rounds it would cost 5 KD so four of us got 20 rounds each and it cost a total of 10 KD per person and we were 4 people. There were a few people in front of us so we just waited but we couldn’t hear anything since it would be deafening if we were walking around without ear protection. When it came to our turn only three could shoot at a time since they only had 3 rifles of that kind which was perfect for me so that I could snap away. It is a lot of fun shooting, and you could see all these guys shooting specific areas and making a huge effort to hit the target, when it came to my turn I was making an effort to keep hitting inside the box of the head and making the “A” symbol disappear from the bullet shots.

img_-005.jpg

For 10 KD worth of bullets it was a lot of fun, and we had just enough of it to get a bite to eat after that. Next time we are going to go to the gun range which is a little bit more difficult and your wrist will hurt depending on the gun you take, and being men we shall take the ones with the biggest bang!

Damn Cold!!...

frozen_ship.jpg

What the hell is this cold! Where the hell did it come from, I like the cold more then I do the heat but not when I have work, going to work early the morning in this cold makes it difficult to get up, getting the car moving is another issue. 4C is damn cold early in the morning and I want to warm the car right up by putting it in gear and launching so that I warm up the car forcefully but sometimes its so cold the car has a hard time getting in gear since it hasn’t really warmed up.

The weather is getting colder and colder, and getting things done in the morning is getting more difficult since I feel lazy. I am enjoying this cold since I get to ride more, but at least you can keep yourself warm with clothing.

KNCC & Charlie Wilson’s War...

charliewilson3.jpg

I don’t even know what to say about this movie, I have been looking forward to watching this movie for some time now. I remember finding out that there are at most two to three sexual scenes which would be cut in Kuwait but the movie would still be enjoyable and viewable. I was mistaken, very mistaken, The Ministery of Information BUTCHERED the movie, I mean it is 30% shorter then what it should be.

cinescape.png

They decided to cut out political wit which they didn’t appreciate, they are total idiots, I feel bad for KNCC because they spend money on movies yet they can’t profit from it because these idiots butchered it. Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts did an amazing job but you miss a lot because of the cut scenes. I think the movie skipped at least 17 times throughout the whole movie, if your going to watch it don’t watch it in the movies in Kuwait.

I’m going to watch this movie again when I download it.

VIP Cinescape – Avenues...

avenueskuwait.jpg

I have been wanting to go see a movie specifically in the VIP section of the cinema for a while now, but I haven’t had the chance except for the other day. We kept hearing how good it is and how people are comparing it to the Gold Class of Dubai.

We were five guys who went to go see this movie, and we weren’t sure what to expect but we knew were going to enjoy ourselves. The entrance and the new cinema is very nice, and it seems they understood that they can make the movies more entertaining which better visuals and design which is what they did.

The VIP section is a little ways down the hall, and when we entered they had their own stand for food which is a good start, I didn’t have high expectations for the service.

Then we entered the movie theater and it was nicely designed so that only a certain number of people would go see the movie, its good to keep the riff raff out. I was disappointed by the seat that they chose, whats the use of it being electric if it doesn’t go all the way. The one in Dubai is much more comfortable and cozy, you really sink in and you can sit any way you like. The seat in Dubai can almost go completely flat but the one in Kuwait is limited to a certain degree which was a bit disappointing.

The service was bad just as I expected, they only had the usual items but what was worse is that they were charging an arm and a leg for the normal items such as popcorn and drinks. It took the gentlemen 20 minutes for us just to get drinks and popcorn when it would have taken me 5 minutes if I went myself. It feels like they did a lot for the look of the VIP, but they didn’t get the seats right and cut it short at the service, people are willing to spend 8 KD or 10 KD if the service is great as they tell because the VIP is always sold out. At least this is better then what we had before, but still a disappointment.

Camels in Wafra...

img_-085.jpg

While in Wafra I took my camera kit with me since its really nice just taking photos around that area. Turns out a friend of mine is also obssessed with taking pictures so we decide to head out in the Landcruiser and go see where we can take photographs. So we headed towards a herd of camels, taking photos of them and getting closer every 5 minutes.

img_-086.jpg

I have to say that camels are one of the funniest animals I have seen, when looking at them I can tell they know exactly whats going on but they don’t care. The camel herder didn’t really mind what we were doing since we seemed harmless to him. There were at least 60 to 70 camels just grazing in that area, we moved around a few times to get the sun light in the direction we wanted.

img_-087.jpg

After a little while we decided to get up close and personal with these guys. I thought at least 10 meters away to get the right photo, so I was behind the lens and kept taking pictures. Some of them moved away and some got closer. I was using a wide-angle lens towards the end and we kept getting close, I was getting some very nice pictures and these guys were just making me laugh. I could see my friend circling around and taking other pictures.

img_-088.jpg

At one point my friend told me “Marzouq, the camel is 10 centimeters away from your lens”, but from behind the lens he looked like he was a couple of meters away. When I look up from the camera the camel was right in my face, curious of the camera so I kept snapping away. At one point went around the camera, and lets just say the big guy likes me. It was a fantastic day, and I really do love those camels.

Villa Moda Sale Mania...

dsc02990.jpg

I found out that it was the Villa Moda Sale, it never really appealed to me as an event worth going to, but then at the time in the morning we were close by in the bikes.

dsc02991.jpg

The moment you enter the freezone you can see the hectic traffic, and every parking spot and area was full, every side walk had a car on it. Women were spewing out of the building with bags bigger then them.

dsc02992.jpg

There was a lot of traffic and navigation was hell, then a big crane came in and pretty much stopped any movement what so ever. Every car had to back up and we were laughing at this spectacle.

dsc02993.jpg

We left after spending 20 mintues there, and as soon as traffic let up we headed out and lucky for us we were on our bikes. The funny part is that people don’t seem to know there are two or three exits from Villa Moda that take you to the main road instead the exit right in front of Villa Moda.

Alghanim Electronics Service Center...

dsc02949.jpg

I found out that Alghanim Electronics is a service center for Creative products. It is close to Alghanim Electronics but behind Nissan Al Shawaf, the first right and the first left coming in from the Fourth Ring Road.

It was clearly written as Alghanim Electronics Service Center, they seemed to have a very professional setup and what kind of they provide. I was spoke to the person at the counter and they said they repare Creative products and when I told them it wasn’t from them they said I would have to pay. If it was above 10 KD they would call me, and if it is below they would just fix it right away.

dsc02950.jpg

They told me it would take three days for them to get back to me if they can fix the MP3 player. I spoke to their engineer and I explained to him my issue, and it was a software issue so hopefully they would be able to fix it and he said two days to see if they can fix it. It seems they have a back log of items. I would be quite happy to get it fixed so I can really try it out, right now I have a bad impression of Creative products. I just have to wait a few days until they get back to me, I will be getting back to them before they call me most probably.

SL55 Atrocity...

dsc04229.jpg

I was driving back from a meeting when I saw this vehicle on the road, and I was horrified with what this person did to this car. I didn’t notice the model of the Mercedes SL because of the pain of viewing such an atrocious color. I know that Mercedes doesn’t offer this color, they wouldn’t even service this vehicle due to how ugly it is. I was shocked to see that it is an SL 55 which is a great vehicle (but not for the track), and how this person is treating it. Saying its an eyesore is an understatement, even the front window had large sticker across the top and a crack front windshield.
