The Model United Nations at the American University of Kuwait

I remember MUN from highschool and from college, and I remember clearly that I was not qualified for any MUN activities, I would have probably caused a war or a fight to break out with the ideas I had, I wasn’t the best of academics at those times. I did appreciate the dedication and seriousness these students had for their work because some of these resolutions do have a real life affect on the UN which passes these regulations. Now AUK is holding this conference and I think it would be interesting to see what ideas they may have, I hope that that all their resolutions pass.

A New Blog – Brake Banzeen...

I tend to follow car blogs a lot, to see whats coming next, what are the numbers of the next machines. What else manufacturers have lined up or the troubles some of these companies face. One of these new blogs is Brake Banzeen, I have been following this Kuwaiti blog for some time now and I like it, he tends to have some information before those main car blogs do and sometimes he has some really good juicy videos to watch that make my mouth water seeing some of those machines, like the details on the new M5. If you like cars or anything with four wheels then this blog should be added to your list, I hope he transfers to a main address rather then a wordpress address soon.

iPod Disappearance @ Toyota...

Usually when I’m traveling I try to get a car service done or anything that would take some time to get done. I had this arranged with Toyota to get my 10K service and a little paint job done for the Landcruiser. It took a total of two and a half days to get it all done, when my friend went to pick it up the Body Shop Manager told him that the iPod from my car was missing and they can’t find it, it was listed in the original paper when the car was submitted and they can’t find it. Now my friend went a little ballistic on them before I even knew, but they offered right away to purchase a new one for me. So he called up Alghanim Electronics and they are sold out and waiting for the new iPod Classics which were announced. The body shop work cost 95 KD and the 10 KD service was 25 KD, and the cost of the iPod Classic 120 GB was 85 KD. But it wasn’t available so I ordered it from Amazon and emailed my friend the emailed invoice, he sent it to them and they were reluctant to pay since it was an emailed invoice but after my friend spoke to the Body Shop Manager again, they paid the 80 KD, but that doesn’t include Aramex shipping but I didn’t mind. I usually take out all the items from my car but I wasn’t there this time around, but I have to say I was surprised this happened at Toyota, at BMW I would expect it in Kuwait but not Toyota. They were gracious enough to offer to pay right away, even if it took a little arguing.

Ghetrity...

Now this is a service that has come in handy on Friday, I’m the type of man that only buys cloths when necessary and that point is usually when they no longer resemble clothing. I have been using the same chemaaq for a while now and I got a few new ones because my brother bought them for me, but in my case I don’t have a clue where to get new ones. So I was in a predicament since I have worn my chemaqs to death and I don’t wear qitras because they are too light for me.

My friend recommend ghetrity so I called them up and gave them my address Thursday evening, and then at Friday 2 pm they came to the house with a sample of every white chemaaq they had and I was surprised of the variety, I’m even lucky I knew the size and I don’t even know how they base those measurements.

There was Givenchy and Dunhill chemaaqs, that was surprising since I thought Givenchy had a fashion line and perfume, and Dunhill had a men’s fashion line and cigarettes. Seems that chemaaqs are big business and these fashion companies are involved, then he opened a box which matched the ones I was wearing exactly. I asked how much that one was, turned out to be 9 KD and so I asked for six pieces, the guy went and came back 30 minutes later with 6 pieces, I paid and he left. Now that couldn’t have been more convenient, I didn’t even have to leave my basement. What more could you ask for, decent prices, great quality and selection, and quick service and all at the comfort of your home.

Review: Zain E-Go 21.6 MB/s...

I was contacted by Zain to try out their new 21.6 Mbps E-Go and put it through the loop and see what its all about. The packaging seems to be nice and small, got a post-paid chip to try it out, took it out of the box getting it ready to plug into my HP Mini 5101. Just to keep in mind the 7.2 Mbps connection of Zain would get around 200 ~ 300 Kbps, so I kept this in mind when I was testing it out.

Its the usual plug and play scenario that everyone is used to, and piece of equipment is even a little better with the new setup. Its a sliding USB connection so its nice and compact, this is the Huawei HPSA+ Slider Model, fits nicely in any bag or pocket even. When you plug it in the USB emulates a CD so your software is installed and launched right away. I went into the technical details of it and trying to mess around it a bit, I had a few places in mind to test it out. When I first heard 21.6 Mbps I took it with a bit of skepticism and thought why not try it out and see what results I get.

Plug it in, configured the connection for the 3.5 G connection and went to my FTP Server which is co-hosted in Europe(Secret Location) to see what I could download a few large files and see what I would get in relation to numbers. I picked a 2.4 GB file to download and it started off at 450 Kbps which is faster then a 4MB land connection, I was impressed right away, its faster then the old 7.2 MBps E-Go right away. As I gave it time the speed fluctuated between 480 Kbps to 960 Kbps, and then I took it a step further, I got into my car and start stopping in different locations to test it out from the 6th ring road to Bida’a to Salmiya and back. I was impressed, there is a fluctuation in speed but it held solid between a 4MB to 9MB connection at 4:00 pm on Friday which is peak pressure time on the network, and so I’m assuming that late night surfing or downloading is going to be even faster then that.

This isn’t a long term test, so I’m going to try it a little bit longer to see what else I can get out of it. Now Zain has an excellent product on their hands with the possibility of great service, they will be giving Internet Service Providers a run for their money but they have to do two things, price it at an acceptable price and keep the service level at a high level. GulfRun – Paradoy...

We really liked the GR ad and decided to come up with a parody! No offense intended. We really appreciate your hard work and effort. Good Luck to all GR5 drivers may the best win ;)

I laughed my head off after seeing this, I think its a couple of girls who put together this very funny Paradoy of the GulfRun video. I think the footage was done in a school parking lot, loved the baby powder and the music choice is great.

GulfRun 5 – Trailer...

Now this is making things a little more interesting, the first GulfRun 5 trailer is out and this is the first time they have put a trailer like this together. I got the email with a link to their post and a picture attached, now I’m really gonna enjoy this upcoming event and I wonder how that camera didn’t melt at the exhaust pipe. There isn’t anything that sounds better then the roar of an engine such as this. Good job NegativEffects with this edit and putting it all together, now I just hope you guys have more videos on the way.

Just a Flat...

I always know that its going to happen at some point and it good to be prepared but your never really prepared for it. I had a flat on Sunday night after the family dewaneya while heading home on airport road getting on to the 6th ring road, the way it happened was probably the most annoying. A pick up truck cut in front of me with some junk in the back, it crossed to big white soccer balls so it jumped and something fell out the back, I was in a low sports car so I was far from it, I didn’t see what fell but I tried to veer around it, and I heard “clank” and felt a shake at the steering wheel and the tire pressure sensor went off. The only thought in my head was “DAMN IT”, I was so close to home and all I wanted to do was go watch some TV shows and got to sleep early, but that wasn’t going to happen tonight.

The bad luck though is that I had to pull over inside an exit on to the 6th ring road, to the right going to Jahra and straight to Miseela. I put my flashers and got out of the car, called up the tow truck of the dealership and called my friend. I was calling again and again waiting for the guy to pick up, luckily I had a few other phone numbers. My friend kept calling me every 10 minutes to check on me and said that he was on the way but there was a hell of a lot of traffic which he had to get around. I was standing behind my car outside for at least 25 minutes before the tow truck showed up, in 65% humidity and heat.

Of course stopping on the side like that and in a location which has no side to stop in is a complete spectacle for people driving by and two lanes of cars merging into one. I think I backed up all of the airport road at 11 pm to 11:45 pm, I kept waving to people to go into the other lane and a lot of people shouldn’t be driving, I didn’t want them hitting my car and I looked at the flat and the was from the metal piece that stuck into it from the side. I had temporary spare but there was no way in hell I’m going to change a tire wearing a dishdasha, its asking for trouble and I had a 90% chance of being hit if I was standing beside the car, while standing behind it I almost got it with flashers and really slow moving cars, there are a lot of idiots on the road. There was one woman who was extremely rude and opened her window while driving and shouted “FASHLAAAAAAAA” and drove off fast, meaning “How Embarrassing!!!”, people just don’t have manners. But one thing did surprise me, at 8 cars stopped and asked if I needed a ride or help, they were decent people. Then the police came before the tow truck and stopped behind me while flashing their lights they at least moved traffic away, one police car was belonging to the central police station and was black and white, then another one came which was blue and yellow. They were very decent and I will give them the benefit of the doubt, I’m assuming wearing a dishdasha really does help, I spoke to them and they asked if I needed a ride but I thank them and said I would be off soon.

The tow truck loaded up the car, my rim was scratched from that damn metal screw but it could have been a lot worse. Hamdilla it was only this, it could always be a lot worse, and so I took my car to the dealership and dropped it off. My tire needs to be replaced and my rim needs to be fixed, I’m hope its fixable because the lip was bent a little. What a night, at least I got a decent suhoor waiting for me and my friend and I got to watch an episode of Eureka.

GulfRun 5 Coming Up...

I have been waiting for this for some time now, I got a text message and I saw the update on my google RSS Reader. GulfRun 5 is coming up in January 2010, that does give me enough time to plan out a few modifications I have in mind. They also mentioned a few different things coming up, I’m curious to see what else is going to be coming. I really want to rip that track apart again, and I have a few ideas in mind, I’m anxious to get behind the wheel and go nuts, getting it all out on the track is perfect, and I’m also curious about the people coming in this year. Last year the Mitsubishi Evolutions were the scary monsters, they were anything but civil, Auto Cross, Drag, Inner Circuit, and GP Circuit they were always on the top 10 or top 5. Just even remembering the whole thing it was a hell of a lot of fun.

Huper Optik – Vehicle Protection...

Luckily I got to be the first person to get this service done, I have been nagging these guys for ages now about front protection. They called me up a few days ago and told me that they would take my car for on Tuesday and have it done by Thursday afternoon, I was happy to give them my car to have the work done.

I went to check on the car before my flight to Dubai and there was the main installer and I saw the cutting machine ready to go. It seems all the guys now have pre-cut designs for these vehicles, and they had a huge list of them, pretty much every vehicle from every manufacturer, its an online database that is updated on a daily basis.

The guys started with my car later in the afternoon and so I took off, I called the next day to check on the progress and by noon it was done but they said they need to keep the car overnight to make sure that it is to their approved standards. They did the whole front, including the front lights and fog lights, side view mirrors, A-Pillars, and 3 inches of the roof. All of that for 260 KD which is the standard price of protection, and it fit perfectly. When I picked up the car it was in perfect condition, and nothing looked off instead it was a completely perfect and and in some place in the front I couldn’t even tell it was there, when your standing a bit away you can’t see the lines, its perfect. I also mentioned to them that I might have some paint work done in the front and they said they would put on the protection for free, I was happy to hear that. They will be starting the service for all cars this coming Saturday so all the cars who want protection know where to go.
