Recycling Electronics?...

ElectronicsRecycling

For the last few weeks I have been going through my stored items and electronics that I have sitting on my shelf for a while. Some of them are very useable and some I don’t think have any use at all for them. I really don’t like throwing electronics away, it feels like a complete waste when I know there is a use for them still but I don’t have a need for them. I usually cannibalize PCs so I always know what to do with the next part but with normal electronics they either sit on a shelf and gather dust or go inside my closet. Is there any place in Kuwait that genuinely recycles electronics? I would want to make sure that they go some where they really do recycle items or take care of them at least for other use. I have too many items over the past decade just sitting in the corner and I don’t use any more. I don’t have the heart to throw electronics away but I don’t want things piling up.

GulfRun 6 – It Has Begun!...

After seeing the announcement on Marks blog last night I knew that there is a lot to look forward to for GulfRun. This year I want to be a little bit more prepared for it then last year and I know a lot of people area geared up to go. I’m not sure what to expect but I know its going to be good. A lot of people are getting ready for the track, they have been asking about the dates for a while now but at last they are set and I can plan around it. Now to order some car parts before the year end and get it installed. Above are my favorite pics from the GulfRun 5 Car Show, you can check them out at the recently updated GulfRun website.

These are some of my favorite pictures, that kid looks like he is the King of all the cars and the guys below checking out their times at the track.

Now the dates are set and we have a target ahead of us. Now the website has all the pics and all the racing results from past years, too bad I never get up there!

Slider Station – The Beast Challen...

Slider Station is one of the best Burger Places in Kuwait, I do love their recipes and their huge selection of burgers. I haven’t been there in a little while due to being busy and not feeling like driving too far to eat, but the other day I had a chance to eat since it was right after a meeting. With the weather getting nicer and nicer the outside patio area was packed, no seats available. At that point I was so hungry that I didn’t care where I sat, so we sat upstairs and ready to order.

I quickly went through the menu and I felt like a regular burger and a rib eye quesadilla, the quesadilla seemed enticing, I wasn’t sure what to expect. We also ordered an assortment West Coast, Dynamite, and Midnight Sliders. When the food came I pounced it right away, I was hungry as hell. The burgers came out first, and they brought out the Rib Eye Quesadilla which was the best and freshest Quesadilla I have had in a while, it was really good and the Rib Eye was genius, if you haven’t had it then you should try it. As I was walking to wash my hands after the meal was annihilated, I saw this large list called “THE BEAST CHALLENGE” and I don’t even know what is that challenge, I didn’t think of asking what it was when I was walking out but I have feeling I will be trying it out. There was a list of people on it, I wonder if that means they were successful or just tried.

GulfRun – Update?...

GRWebsite

I usually restart my computer every once in a while to stop it from crashing all the tabs I have open in my Firefox browser. I make sure to check that all that pages loaded up nicely, and then I saw this on the GulfRun. I started trying to sneak around the website but nothing was coming up so I emailed and they told me to wait a little while, something is coming up.

Zain Local Blackberry – No Roaming...

BlackBerry9800Torch

With Zain you have a choice of two plans, International or Local, with International you get an extra 10 MB for international use and unlimited local, with Local you get no allowance for international but you get unlimited local. With both plans you pay 6 fils per KB, with the international you get that fee once you go over the 10 MB monthly allowance. Now because of all the pricing and billing blunders that people suffered while traveling internationally with a local plan Zain switched off Blackberry Service for people who travel internationally but with a local plan. If you want Blackberry Service running but you want to keep your local plan you have to go to Zain and sign documents stating that you understand the bills against you. Now I can understand the billing issue but they seriously have to find a way to warn people when they are reaching their limits instead of just cutting them off. My friends just learned about this little change in policy while they were traveling, so even if they wanted to activate their Blackberry service they would have to go to Kuwait and sign the document and then they would switch it on, so no way to do it while you are abroad. But for those who don’t want to switch it on you can still use the Blackberry service internationally when you are connected to a Wifi connection.

The One – Overpriced...

TheOne

I have gone to a few places to check out furniture over the last few months. Recently I saw a couch in The One that I wanted, when I saw it in February it was around 599 KD for the 1.5 seater which is a bit on the high side for a product made in China. I left it at that, then by May I passed by again to find it for sale at around 425 KD but I didn’t have the space to get it yet. Then I went back in the end of June to check its there and found the same couch for 265 KD, that does tell me something. Now that I can get the couch its gone, and I found something similar and its at the price of 589 KD which is again ridiculous. They do have nice stuff and I went and checked out other places but didn’t find what I want. Then I saw an office chair for 199 KD at The One that I remember seeing for 60 KD a while back, I think they would sell more if their prices are a little bit more reasonable.

Case Study: The Wedding Decision for the...

LionMarraige1

Case Study: The Wedding Decision for the average Kuwaiti male – ANALYSIS

Tenor: Average ~30 yrs of marriage

Expenditures:
Marriage Expenses $50,000 (KD 14,500)
Monthly Expenditure: $5,000 (KD 1450)
Wife’s Monthly Maintenance: $2,000 (KD 575)

Revenues: (In terms of sexual acts)
First 5 years: 3x per week
Next 5 years: 1x per week
Next 10 years: 1x per 15 days
Last 10 years: 1x per month

Conclusion (in PV terms assuming a 2.5% inflation rate for 30 years): For a total of 1403 sexual relations over 30 years for an estimated expenditure totaling the present value of $1.795 million (KD 513K) (or equivalent to $1,279.72 per sexual act.) Thus, the outsourcing of the act will result in the savings of $1,220.97 (KD 350) (assuming each outsourcing act is worth $574.30). In conclusion, it is cheaper to outsource than to commit.

Disclaimer
Math is correct 100% cause I did it. The assumptions of sexual acts may differ from spouse to spouse and husband to husband. I did it in USD because its more believable. USDKWD rate is .287

My friend took the time to study some marriage expenses and details and I found his results to be hilarious even if they might be flawed in many ways. I loved how he tried to simplify it down it mathematical reason not to get married, he probably won’t. This is totally not my opinion but I have to applaud his effort

Ramadan Rounds...

I for one enjoy Ramadan, you get to see a lot of family and friends, but in our case we have a lot of dewaneyas to visit. The amount of work really hasn’t changed much and I usually leave work between 4:30 and 5:00 pm and I get up around 8:30 am. Somedays I get back home by 3:30 pm so I get to have a lot of time to relax, play some video games and sometimes go for a walk before futoor.

After futoor gets a bit hectic at times, some times we have futoor at home and other times we visit family for futoor. After isha prayer we meet up with our family, the men’s side, and then we visit dewaneyah to dewaneyah. Its been this schedule since the beginning of Ramadan, we may cover about 8 to 13 dewaneyahs a night. Men’s visits are light and easy, you go in, you say hello to people for Ramadan, trying to go to certain areas where all the dewanyahs are open at the same time such De’eyah, Bnaid Al Gar, Khaldiya, Shuweikh, and other locations. Its a long process and very time consuming but I always think that its once a year and you get to see some people you haven’t seen for a while. I know that this schedule isn’t for everyone but I do get some enjoyment out of it, and for the past week we have gotten a day or two off. It seems I do more work after the sun sets then before, and then I head home around 11:30 pm to watch an hour or two of tv shows and enjoy my subway sandwich before passing out.

I Work In A Place @ WordPress...

IWokInAPlace

This is one of the more different blogs I have seen, the writer’s name is Hoda. She writes all that she hears at her place of work and the statements and work timings I’m assuming that she works in a government entity. I can imagine that she seems to be one of the few sane people there based on all the quotes. Some of the quotes are hilarious and some aren’t but it is different and I hope she keeps it up.

Overheard at work: Supervisor: “Su3ad, gasray 3al aghany 3endech, asma3hom min makeby.” “Inshallah bs 3ogob ma hal eghniya etkhales.”

Overheard at work: “Lazem tekooneen bilingal. Mo bas 3arabi o engeleizi.”

Overheard at work: “Ams Sami gali ma adawem elyom 3ashan as’har ma3a 6ool el leil. Chan agoola ‘mali khulg, mo nagseen 3yal’ hahaha.”

Baked – The Cookies...

I’m not one usually for deserts but a friend sent over the “Baked” cookies and said they are amazing. I wasn’t too crazy about them since I’m not the biggest cookie person and before futoor everything smells good, but I won’t lie I took a wiff of it when I opened the container and its torture during the Ramadan. In the bucket there are two kinds of cookies, chocolate chip cookies and brownie filled chocolate chip cookies.

It smelled really good but I thought I would leave judgment until after futoor and I’m a diet so I will only have one of each. Late at night after finishing with the family rounds I had a piece of each and they were heavenly, but thats not the final judgement. My almost two year old nephew came wobbling in when we saw me eating and just kept saying “Abi Abi Abi”, so I gave him a piece of the cookie, he then walked away as he was chewing on it. 20 seconds later he comes back smiling saying “Abi Abi Abi” and reaching up, so the cookies are just good, they have made me the favorite of my nephew for that night. I know I will be ordering them when I have a chance. To Order Just called Baked @ 97771791
