This is just one of the funny things that happened last Thursday. When you have a day where some friends get together, and that day falls on V-Day then you won’t have a big turn out from the married crowd.
Statistic:
Married People Showing Up: 1 out of 4 Guys
That medal goes to Corolla Man for coming to the Dewaneya twice on V-Day over the past two years.
And now from the other side of the spectrum from last year:
Marzouq: Hey why don’t you come over today?
Hachi Roku: Can’t
Marzouq: Why not?
Hachi Roku: Hell will freeze over before I ditch my wife to hang out with you guys for V-Day
Marzouq: (The Weak Have Fallen)
This is a long weekend and people have lots of plans, well ours is a short one for this long weekend, and its going to be very entertaining.
Marzouq: There were tons of good movies in Dubai .. didn’t have a chance to see anything.
Khaled: We should go watch them and comeback during the weekend
Marzouq: How bout in one day, Saturday?
Khaled: Meh .. yalla.
Marzouq: Saturday, Dubai, Movie. You guys in?
Abdulrahman / Saleh: ok, fooga
What a ridiculous night of fun, towards the end of Friday night I was getting hungry and a few of the guys already ate.
So I had a craving for Sushi, I got the number to Maki and I headed over there. My friends ordered for me since I didn’t know what to order. I got the Issa Maki, Shrimp Tempura, and some Chicken.
Came back and we started watching StarWars IV which is the first movie from the Star Wars Saga. I have to say that it is one hell of a movie, and watching it again you notice things that you never noticed before. They were Lucas was a genius making this movie, it was years ahead of its age. And then we bucket of popcorn that was finished the first 20 minutes in.
This is just one those games that you have to get into it to enjoy it. It was late at night and we were finishing up all the things we had to finish, I headed over to K’s place to go watch some movies and I found playing rock band, one person on guitar and one on drums. I took the microphone waiting to join in, I am no way as skilled as those already playing.
I joined in after a few songs, it was a good start and then there was this one song that we completely aced. I have always liked rock songs but now I have a new found appreciation for them. We were getting into it but I needed to have a bottle of water next to me because the microphone is sensitive as hell. With this game you realize all the musical talents that you could have which is fantastic. I also have a huge amount of respect for rock musicians, when I am three to four songs in my throat is almost gone and I found out that I am good with mid to low range and sometimes high tones, but at some points I just couldn’t hold it at a certain tone, its insane. By the time the game is done I don’t want to talk just to recover from all the songs, and you really get into it.
My friend has gotten better, he is stable but he remains in the Intensive Care Unit. They have taken him off the heavy sedation and he is feeling a bit better then before. Some of the guys keep visiting him, but not too many at one time since he is still in the ICU.
He has improved over the past couple of days, but he might have to have surgery again. The first surgery was successful to stop the bleeding but there is some foreign fluid in his head that they must extract. He will remain in the ICU for a couple of more days then transfered to the normal ward. His parents have arrived in the states to see how their son is doing, during that time his uncle and aunt were with him.
It was his roommates that took him to the hospital and contacted his friends about what happened to him. He was robbed of his keys, wallet, and phone and he was found by the complex security guard on the side walk around 6:00 am in the morning, and he was last on the phone around 2:30 am with one of our friends. So he was out there for a few hours before anyone found him. He was lucky to have good roommates and they took him to hospital after trying to figure out what to do and who to contact. By the time he spoke to the police he was already sedated and so they said it is a very slim chance that the attackers would be caught, surprisingly he was attacked in an area which is usually safe to walk in.
This weekend should be considered a Rock Band weekend, I saw the setup at my friends place and all they were missing was the speakers to be a real band. These guys were practicing non-stop with the Guitar and Drums, I wasn’t too crazy to try since last time I was obliterated in Guitar Hero. They asked me if I wanted to sing, so I thought I would be horrible and this would be like karaoke so why not.
This turned out to be a lot more intense and insane then I thought it would be. Out of the all the guys that sung I did a pretty good job, never thought I would sing but when you are singing to some really good rock songs you do get into the whole mood of things. They do shows in different cities to win stars and gain groupies. This is probably the most intense group games I have played yet, I was laughing my head off, but after every two or three songs I take a break since my voice is slightly gone and you really have to get into it to get the tones right. I can’t believe how involved this game is, and how crazy everyone gets with it.
I got an email from a friend telling me about one of our friends who is currently in the I.C.U in San Francisco General Hospital. A friend mine moved to San Francisco for a job, and he is enjoying his stay in the city and most of the guys live down south about 30 to 40 miles away.
He was walking on the street and he was jumped by a few people, and they took his money and phone. He was beaten very badly by them that he was taken to the emergency room for surgery since he had internal bleeding in his head. He is currently in a severe but stable situation.
I can’t believe this has happened to our friend, his uncle is with him and a lot of the guys want to visit him but they don’t want to go at a bad time. Its frustrating that nothing can be done right now, but I do hope that he recovers completely from this.
Since I was with some friends who haven’t been to Dubai before we decided to go on one of those tours in the Desert, the one thing that I knew was that it was a 90% chance that the company vehicle would be a Landcruiser. We woke up really early in the morning since we knew we had to head out around 7:30 am to make it to the location at 9:00 am. So I was beating at the drums from early in the morning to get everybody up.
We were five guys not including the driver in the car, laughing our heads off in the car with music blaring. It was going to be a start to a very funny day. By the time we got to the location we convinced the driver to go ballistic and do his worst. He took the challenge and there were times the Landcruiser was either going to flip or all four tires were going to pop because of the jumps we were taking.
We stopped a few locations which was a lot of fun and we saw a lot of camels which was also fun. The car had a roll cage and I was sitting comfortably in the back, it was a hell of a lot of fun, and then we went sandboarding which was ridiculous and a few people landed face down on the ground.
This was one hell of an event, about 16 guys came from the US for my friend’s wedding in Egypt. I was the only guy traveling from Kuwait, and I knew it was going to be one hell of day. I was with the groom most of the day and he was relaxing, we were around the hotel most of the day. I realized early in the morning that the hotel lost my tie, but I remembered wear they sell nice ties so I want to the First Mall next to the old Four Seasons.
The wedding was at the Four Seasons Nile which is where I was staying. My friend and I were taking our time, and I knew it would only take me at most 15 minutes to get ready. Getting all the guys to be there on time is another subject. The setting was nice, but the atmosphere was better since everyone was very happy and excitement was in the air.
Then the groom entered and we were cheering for him, I haven’t seen that guy this happy in a while! Its just a good feeling seeing your friend really happy, and there were dancers in front of him so I wanted to see where he was looking. I was laughing so hard most of the night, and we just kept on going until everybody left for the night. It was a fantastic night with a lot of good friends, I didn’t stay still for most of the time I was there.
This has been a whirlwind of a trip, flying all over the place, going to my best friend’s wedding, doing a million things, getting as little as sleep as possible to make sure all my friends have a good time. It felt like we didn’t have a chance to breath there was too much to do and we were just having a really good time together.
Just flying back to Kuwait I realized what was on my plate, and how much work piled up for the last 10 days. Its going to take a bit to catch up but it was all very worth it.
I hope everyone had a great new year, a good new year in my opinion is with the group that you are with, and I was with a very good group of friends. What a start to this year.
