We are currently working on a project, and some space was made for this project. K needed a work bench/desk for the testing area and setup. So we decided to go to IKEA but none of us were free to go before 7:45 pm, since we didn’t get back from work until late.
We went to the avenues, and the parking lot of was packed at IKEA, we found some parking towards the end of the lot. We went to Araan to pick up some coffee, and I felt like a Krispy Kream doughnut which I haven’t had in months. To say that we look disheveled was an understatement, but some how we still looked normal or less freaky then half the people walking inside the avenues. There were three boys wearing bandanas and their boxers on the outisde thinking they are the coolest thing in the world. I wish I had my camera with me, I was so tired I forgot it at home. Some women had so much make up that their eyelashes somehow looked part of their eyebrows. When you start seeing these freaky sights, it sends a chill down your spine. So we decided to hurry up the pace, we flew through IKEA which felt more like an obstacle course due to people walking slow, we picked up what we wanted and headed towards the safety of our homes.

Early friday morning, I woke up to my phone ringing and I knew that I had to get up. K, Monichum, and a few others called me to get up, so I called a few other people trying to make sure they wake up as well for a good breakfast. We didn’t know exactly where we were heading, but it was a beautiful day and we had to get up. We decided to meet in the city since we had to pick up a few people and ended up with 7 people, a few wouldn’t wake up to their phones ringing. Met up with K, and we took off to the City to meet up with Monichum and a few other people, then we went to Qurtoba and kidnapped one guy from his home.
As soon as we got going we were flying to Al Koot Mall for a change, we were enjoying our drive and the empty highways. A little street racing was taking place after we filled up the gas tanks down Malik Fahad Highway, it is fun to drive in Kuwait as long as the streets are empty. Our main plan revolved around seeing Ironman that day, we were all looking forward to it. There was also the boat show, but I just wasn’t sure of the dates or when it was opening since it was delayed due to the dust storms.
We go to Al Koot Mall in record time, there were some corners that you couldn’t help but drift through them. The streets of Kuwait are fun as long as its empty, it was pretty cool that day as well so it wasn’t too hot outside. We got to Al Koot and had breakfast at Paul’s cafe since their weren’t too many breakfast places there that we knew off. At that point we were planning our day and what time we were meeting up for the movie and other plans for the night.
A friend of ours is a surgeon in one of the public hospitals. We all work in different fields, but he has the most insane and entertaining stories. I have to say that I have huge respect for doctors, but not all of them are good. He is one of the good ones, but does deal with a lot of nut cases. I will be posting some of his less graphic stories, some of them are just very shocking. We were talking about the trend of plastic surgery these days, and it seems a lot of women are willing to go under the knife. Then were talking about plastic surgery and this is how the conversation went:
Me: “So how are plastic surgeons in Kuwait?”
Doc S: “There are some really good ones, but in specific places”
Me: “So what can you do as a surgeon usually?”
Doc S: “I will turn you into a SPARTAN!”
The Guys: “Where do we sign up??!?! hahahaha”
I haven’t been to Sultan Center Salmiya for over 8 years now, I think since Souq Sharq opened up I just go there to avoid the traffic. This time after the Ironman movie we wanted to have another bbq, and we were just exiting Fanar at 6:45 pm. We crossed the street to Sultan Center, we only need to pick up about 2 dozen buns and some minced meat from the butcher.
When you have 6 guys walking into Sultan Center, things don’t usually go as planned. I remembered why I wasn’t the best person for shopping in this type of environment, we went in for one thing and came out with it and a few other items. I forgot about all the cereals that I loved as after getting the meat and buns, I picked up some Coco Puffs, Rice Krispies, and Honey Smacks. I even tried picking up some dumb bells but nibaq kept throwing the dumb bells out of the cart, maybe he was right. I also picked up some Tang, and we were headed in different directions. Then we parked the cart at the escalator and headed upstairs which held a lot of childhood memories, toy section in Sultan was like a Gold Mine. I picked up about 7 pens and another pack of pens since I had lots of pens in my cup at home but most of them were nonfunctional, I even picked up a few tools. By the time we left we had a cart full of things, and still fun to slide on the cart down the isle.

There was only so much space available for everything thats on the net. So K decided to back up everything that a person could want from the net. 8 TB full of every type of media available. This will just keep growing, there isn’t no such thing as enough space. This explains why I didn’t hear from him for a few hours.
The incident took place Friday night at 8:50 pm, Zahed was sitting next to me on the bench. The efforts from earlier in the day were showing fruition, bowls and bowls of meat were arriving to the table. Steaks, Hot Dogs, Burgers, and all forms of meat, we had every condiment ready and many of us were starving.
Zahed was sitting to my right when the burgers arrived, everything seemed normal and some of us were reaching for the buns. Each person was choosing his condiment, some were waiting for others. Zahed picked up the mustard bottle, and I was holding the ketchup bottle. Everything seemed normal but Zahed wasn’t getting any results. I turn to grab something else then a sudden burst of air and I felt something smear me. My right side was covered in Mustard and so was my dishdasha, but that was nothing in comparison to Zahed, if he jumped in a pool of mustard it wouldn’t have covered him as much. He was covered from head to toe in mustard, and we were all bursting out laughing, I still don’t know how that happened, and I don’t care. It was funny as hell, he cleaned up but we continued to enjoy the excellent food and great music. Perfect night for a bbq and a mustard explosion.
At 5:50 am it looked dustier outside then it was at night, I was wide awake since I passed out early the day before. Got a call from Monichum at 6:34 am, we couldn’t ride but we wanted to do something. We were wondering what was open at the time, he ask me if I wanted to eat breakfast. Where to go was the question on my mind, he suggested somewhere in Shuweikh.
Monichum’s statement, “Its not the cleanest place but you are going to love it, just let me order and don’t make any sudden movements”
Drove over and picked up Monichum who took two showers for some reason. We headed towards Canada Dry Street since we were on the way to Cafeteria Shuweikh which is right on Canada Dry street. Their opening hours are from 5:00 am to 12:00 am everyday which is insane, they are open longer then any Starbucks.
The place is a lot cleaner then I expected, but it is close the living quarters of the street cleaners. There was the odd person here and there, but everyone who was there knew exactly what they wanted. We stood out because we were wearing jeans, and I was carrying a huge camera and snapping away. They asked me if I worked for a newspaper or a magazine, or if it was like a instant camera like a “Bolaroid”. They were very nice about all the pictures I was taking, and they told me to take a picture of the kitchen. The owner came out and told us that he won’t offer us free food for a good review and started laughing. The atmosphere is very nice, the food is really good, I loved the fatayer and zaatar. What a start to a funny morning, and then there was a few hardware places that I wanted to go to, things just kept on adding up from there.
It has been a long time since I have been Al Zoor to visit some of the guys. I have been getting caught up with a lot of things in the city, but this time it was a special occasion. A lot of people were invited and I haven’t gone in a little while.
It was around sunset on Friday when I wanted to set out to the beach house, but the ridiculous storm came in and shook things up. After checking that everything was ok, I left home around an hour later but the roads were an obstacle course filled with trees, some signs, and some other debris. In the Landcruiser I was driving around them heading towards the gas station, it was open with some tenants working, I didn’t know what they did during the storm. Filled up with gas and headed towards Al Zoor, you could see where that Hurricane hit and where it didn’t cross.
I was taking my time driving to Al Zoor, there was no real schedule other then the dinner would be later in the evening. The best part about driving a long distance is the open windows, music blaring, the cool breeze and enjoy the driving. Cops were parked on the side by Julai’a and Malik Fahad Highway, before that there was a camera car parked on the side of the road. It seems they wanted to ticket as many cars possible, I just had it cruising at 120 kph for once so no ticket for me.
A few cars were parked outside by the time I got there. Walked in and dropped my bags in my room, I haven’t been in there for ages. The room seemed brand new and unused compared to other rooms, my room mate is my cousin and it seems he hasn’t been out too much either.
Walked out and headed towards the sitting room to chill with the guys, then we transfered outside. The weather was amazing and the storm didn’t come close to the beach houses, but you could see the storm in the distance. I was getting hungry by the minute and the shawarma was the main thing I was looking forward to. It was a special day so lots of people were invited to the gathering other then the usual people.
Five shawarmas later I was sitting on the couch about to pass out since I was up early in the morning. The funny part was that some people were getting very annoyed with me being the paparazzi that I am at these events, I tend to take pictures to remember the moment. Slowly passing out on the couch while some people were talking to me, I couldn’t keep my eyes open even for a moment. I headed to my room and watched an episode of Chuck before completely passing out, the best part was that my room was 17C, it was cold and easy to fall asleep around 12:30 am.
Around 2:30 pm I could here somebody say something about lunch. I woke up comfortably feeling that I caught up with all the sleep I was lacking from the past couple of weeks. I took a shower packed, my bags, and had a really good meal. I had a lot of errands to take care of so I had to leave a little early, I headed it out by 3:45 pm and the best part was driving with a full stomach. When I’m full I tend to drive really slow, I was cruising at 120 Kph and everyone was flying past me so I moved to the right lane with music at full blast and the windows open. It was a fantastic time, I need to go there more often, maybe next time I take my bike.
This turned out to be a funny event, we got invited to our friend’s house for a BBQ on Thursday afternoon, and there was a good turn out. The plan was to have burgers, steaks, and some chicken, keep tings simple. We were out from early in the morning, some people had half day works and some were out with there family but almost everybody showed up.
I was running a little late for no reason really, I think it was because I wanted to arrive just as the food was coming off the grill, I was too hungry to wait. It was amazing weather, sunny with a cool breeze while we were seated outside the whole time. Then there was the hammock, it looked very comfortable and we all wanted to just pass out after a good meal, but I knew better then to go and sleep in the hammock. To fall asleep in the hammock makes you the target of everyone’s mischief and I was right. We started a movie just after the BBQ but I had to leave to finish some errands before my flight the next day.
This is probably one of the most ridiculous events that have taken place over the past couple of weeks. We all had a few things to do, and one the guys wanted to go to Rihab. I have wanted to go to Rihab for a while now but I hate going to that area because of traffic and lack of parking. We started the day with 6 guys and ended with 8 guys, it started off as something funny and turned into a funny event all over Kuwait.
We took off to Hawally with the Toyota Innova filled with 6 people, it was surprising that it fit everybody very comfortably. The car was comfortable to drive, and it was empty when we first left so we filled it up at the gas station.
We got to Rihab around 4:35pm and we all had a few things to do:
We went into every crevice in Rihab, I haven’t done that in over a decade. I usually go in with something in mind but this time we split up into pairs and we were on a mission. We covered every store and shop there was, I stumbled upon a Japan Hobby store which is fantastic, I’m going to pass by there again since it was closed when I got there. There were lots of stores selling fire extinguishers for some reason. After running around for about 45 minutes we went to the basement and checked out Underground and ComputerCity, it was a sad state of a computer store for Computer City. They had 8X PC-DVD selling for 28 KD which was selling for 28 KD in 1996.
We left the building looking for a microphone stand which turned into a run around in Hawally. We found a place which had microphone stand which we haggled for, it was priced at 15 KD and got it for 11.5 KD. From there we headed to Mishref and picked up friend to head to Kuwait City. So around 5:56 pm we were 7 people in the van and going to Al Falah Car Wash to get one of our friends. We nagged him until he decided to leave his car home and join us in our escapade.
We headed to Bida’a from there then to Salmiya to pick up from food. I was pushing the car as much as possible, it was hilarious. I am honestly impressed with the car, it has an mp3 CD player and tape deck, and after driving around for 4.5 hours the gas needle didn’t drop from the F symbol, it remained full all day.
We got back to have dinner and then proceeded to enjoy Rock Band.
