Homeautomation… Would You?...

homeautopulse.jpg

This is someting I see some people getting into these days. And to what extent are they going to delve into it. How far are you going to integrate electronics into your house basics. Are you building a home from scratch or working on your current house or a room in your house. Some people are automating their “Dewaneyas” or Cinema Rooms with light, A/C, and A/V controls. Do you just want to network your house so that you have connectivity everywhere, or do you want to automate certain things like lights and curtains.

With this type of situation people are either one way or another towards electronics. There are those who jump head first into knew tech and like to integrate it into their lives, and their are those who have a certain phobia from electronics period.

I have a few things I would do to keep things simple.

  • Manual controls to override any control loss to the home controller
  • I would integrate the Lighting system, A/C, and Curtain controls but only at interface level again there would be a way to override the controller.
  • I would have an internal and external camera system. Certain areas of the house wouldnt have camera for privacy’s sake
  • A/V would only be integrate to each room with their controllers.
  • Of course there are complex and simple interfaces, the ones on the wall are usually simple and the handheld ones are a bit more complex.
  • I would have to have Gigabit wiring throughout the house and an coporate standard router/switch to handle all the communication throughout the house. It would be standerdized as Voip internally with normal lines to external (maybe Voip for international, we shall see).

The funny part is this is all in my head and I went overboard with it, but if I was building a house I would integrate electronics into it. I know a lot of people who see it as a headache, but once you get it working right its fantastic.

Denon D-F103HRDAB...

denonHDstereo.jpg

This is one stereo filled to the brim. Its got everything in it, a built in HD, internet playback, wireless capability (optional), rips CDs directly to its internal HD, internet Radio capability, DAB radio functionality, CDDB Gracenote support. It also plays MP3s, WMAs, and AAC, and it has the ability to play off a flash drive, and Ipod connectivity.

Basically it can do everything you want it to do plus drive your car for you! And the price tag will make you fly!

Price: $1950 (With the Speakers), $1700 (without the speakers)

I really like Denon products since they put a lot of features into their products, and you dont feel like its just fluffed up electronics for the sake of just selling, they make what they would be happy to own.

Review: iAudio U3...

cowon-u3-2.jpg

Im the type of person to really beat the crap out of something before giving it my seal of approval. And this DAP has my seal of approval. Im really picky about mp3 players since I totally dislike using MP3 players that force me to use their software to put music on their mp3 player. I dont mind a piece of software that helps format certain things to play on it, but not to be forced to use it. This DAP (Digital Audio Player) fits the bill.

Positives:

  • It plays MP3, WMA, ASF, WAV (including 48KHZ Stereo), FLAC, and OGG
  • There is 20 hour battery built into the mp3 player and it reaches that much even after 6 months of use
  • Its small and compact
  • Just the right amount of controls with easy accessibility
  • Built-in FM Tuner
  • Durable (Dropped it a lot and works as if new)
  • It supports both UMS and MTP mode (which means I plug it directly to my PC and it appears as a hard drive, thats the best feature)
  • Extremely light weight and small
  • High quality screen which is very bright
  • The Sound quality is supperb
  • Charges through USB

Con:

  • I wish there were more accessories for it
  • The max size is 2GB when I wish it was 4GB or 8GB

PS3 woes.....

PS3.jpg

Other then shootings, robberies, and looting of PS3s there seem to be problems that this machine has out of the box.

  • Some of them dont work out of the box
  • 1080i doesnt work on a lot of HD televisions, and Sony doesnt think they can fix them
  • Controllers are loosing bluetooth connectivity in mid game
  • The PS3 doesnt upscale the DVD playback to play on 1080p screens and they said they are working on it

Damn this thing has a ton of issues. Hopefully they can solve them quick! Now thats a hell of a lot of problems to come out with from day one.

Netgear Gigabit Wireless Router...

NetgearGigabit.jpg

Out of my whole shipment that was on hold from amazon that is filled with DVDs and one Gigabit router, the only thing that did come out was the Gigabit router. Its driving me nuts but I really dont have any other choice. The customs thing aside, I was very happy to recieve this Gigabit router. I have had a D-Link 8-port Gigabit switch for a while now running on my Linksys router, but I know the routing itself is at 100MB/s even though the switch can go up to 1000MB/s. Now I have this new router with built-in wireless and Gigabit routing. I just installed it the night I recieved, but I will be doing thurough testing at a later point. I will be doing testing through streaming audio & video, while making data transfer.

I do have access points at this point, which Im trying to use to cover the whole house, and cover all deadspots. Im trying to make sure I have no problem with this router and none of the access points freeze. I will be updating the firmware only after Im done testing.

Gefen Home Theater Scaler...

grefenhome_theater_scaler.jpg

This is one interesting product, at first I thought it looked like a mac-mini, but I was wrong. It so much better then that, it upconverts any input/DVD to 1080p or whatever the highest resolution of the screen. It also acts as a switcher for all the inputs it has. Its priced at $400, but if it works as advertised its a great piece of electronics.
Inputs:

  • Two Components Input
  • Two HDMI Input

This product is filled with features for the quality to be high, and making sure the upconverting is done right.

PS3 Insanity?!?...

PS3.jpg

What the hell is going on with people!

People waiting in line while getting shot with BB Guns and getting injured for the sake of a PS3. A guy hires 60 temps to wait in line for him to get a PS3. The world gone WILD for the PS3.

Look at this GUY who is offering himself up for body gaurd services while waiting in line for a PS3 and knocking other people out so you get to it first!

The Prices for the PS3 is between $1000 to $2000. Are people that crazy that they cant wait a month or two.

I have never seen this much insanity for a gamesole no matter how good it is. I think I will wait a while before getting one! Im pretty happy with my XBox 360.

Review: Dell 2407FPW...

2407FPW.jpg

This screen has been on my list of wants for a while since I watch a lot of stuff on my PC. My cousin got this as gift for his Bday from his brother so on friday we put this together, reorganized all the PC wires and got rid of all the unneeded wiring. When we powered it up it look nice, and we wanted to see how it look with games some episodes. I have to say that all the reviews were correct in that this screen is amazing, and crisp. We started up World of Warcraft and we were mezmorized by the crisp graphics, amazing tones, the natural hues all of it just fantastic. As long as you have a high end graphics card its well worth getting this screen. We started watching the apprentice to see how good it is, and it was so good that we forgot we were watching it just for testing reasons. I forgot we were watching it on a PC! I think it was around 270KD, and it was ordered from the a store in Hawally who got it from the states.

Update: The price delivered is 300KD, that is what you get in Hawally. I just checked.

Postives:

  • Clear pictures
  • Crisp graphics
  • Fast refresh rate
  • Built-in 9-in-1Card Reader
  • Two extra USB Connections
  • Mutiple types of connections (DVI, VGA, Composite, and S-Video )
  • Very nice design
  • Very flexible direction, height, and tilt adjustment
  • Cheaper then an Apple 23inch Screen (I had to throw that in)

Negatives:

  • Price (But that will always be an issue unless its free)

This screen needs to be seen to be believed. And for those complaining about the quality of the Apple, they use the same exact tube.
