Loc8tor Lite...

loc8tor.jpg

Now this is something that has been around for a while, but it is a little bit more intuitive and simple. The loc8tor lite is the best product to find lost items, what ever they may be. You have two tags that come with it and you can add two more for a total of four, you can attach it to car or your phone. The device itself has different beep levels to help you go in the right direction and it works up to 122 meters away, and it would get you to within 2.5 cm of the objects. You have two ways to attach it, using an adhesive or strap, the only issue is that the tags are the size of candy which I assume is the reason for its operational distance.

Canon EF – Wide-angle zoom lens &#...

canon17-40lens-001.jpg

I have been looking for a wide angle lens for my Rebel XT for a while now. I have my Tamron 11 – 18 mm Wide Angle lens but it only works for certain shots and it is not good with a certain amount of daily, I wanted something else that would get the right amount of light for the shots I’m taking. I have had the Tamron for about 2 years now, I bought it used but in very good condition, so after looking around for a while I chose the Canon 17 – 40 mm Wide Angle Lens. It has very good reviews and very reasonable price compared to the newer version released by Canon which is a decent amount more expensive.

canon17-40lens-002.jpg

Initial Thoughts:

  • Great shots in the 17 – 28 mm range, after that there is a bit of blur but still excellent pictures
  • Fantastic during day light
  • A bit slot since its f/4 but very quiet focusing mechanism
  • It is a high quality lens for a good price compared to others in its range, and I do like Canon Lenses

This isn’t a thorough review but I am getting a lot of good pictures initially from this Lens, indoors and outdoors. So overall I am very happy adding this lens to the list that I have. I will be making a full post of the equipment that I am currently using to take pictures with.

The Sonos System...

sonos1.jpg

Everybody at this point in time has a sizable amount of music in some sort of hard drive. In my case I have my music mostly stored in my Network Area Storage. I have had the Sonos system for over three years in storage now, I got them in 2005 and didn’t connect them for the longest time since I didn’t have the right setup to take advantage of it.

sonos2.jpg

At this point I do have the right setup to make use of my Sonos system, I have two ZP100s which are the base machines which connect to the database through a wired or wireless connection. These machines recognize each other which is fantastic through the network, I control the two ZP100s through the Sonos Controller 100 which you can choose what to play where. I am deploying these machines in different locations but at this point I really have to organize and clean up my music, they are really messy and the naming is just horrible.

sonos3.jpg

I also need to clean up all the duplicates I have, I have some music stored in other places but with this new system I really need to clean things up with my audio files. My video files are all organized and categorized which is easy to search through and find, but my audio is one huge jumble.

razormako.jpg

If you are looking for top of line 2.1 Audio Speakers then this is the speaker set for you. The Razor Mako 2.1 THX Certified Desktop Audio, it has features which you wouldn’t expect from them.

Razor worked with THX to make THX certified speakers with all the audio qualities needed so that they are certified at that level. Lower distortion levels, Patented THX Groud Plane and THX Slot Speaker technology, touch sensitive LED control dial, RCA or 3.5 mm input, head phone jack, and 300W RMS.

This package doesn’t come cheap, but if money isn’t an issue and you want the best this is what your looking for.

Canon King Kong Lens...

canon-super-telephoto-lens.jpg

This is a custom made lens from Canon that has been produced from 1993 to 2005, the 1200mm Telephoto Lens. It is 84 centimeters long and weighs in at 16 Kgs.

What the hell were they taking pictures of, spacecrafts? This thing is humongous, the price of it is another matter. Canon made 2 or 3 of these a year and they would sell for $99’000, and the used ones are still selling for that price. Either you get two nice cars with this amount of money or a lens that could shoot down planes.

Western Digital 1 TB Drive...

wd1tb.jpg

So I have decided to go with the Western Digital drive since speed isn’t my top priority even though I would have liked it. Since the NAS is running in my room I wouldn’t want it running too loud while I’m asleep, right now at night there is a light hum from all the equipment that is running.

I have found the 1 TB Drive being sold at 90 KD in Hawally which is 16 KD more expensive then online without shipping. Since its available and not so much more expensive I don’t mind paying that price to have 2 drives right now to work with. My PSU has arrived so I will be able to use my Infrant Ready NAS NV as soon as I install the new PSU and hard drives.

At Last...

txsr875silverlrg.jpg

They have released my damn receiver, and I got it at last. I will be uploading the final pictures, thanks to K for helping me wire it up (He pretty much did the wiring). We also figured out a few things about the receiver, its very nice and clean, packed with features. Its also very heavy, 29 KGs, and bigger then I expected, I had to remove my DVD player to put it in and lift up my Center Speaker, adjustments had to be made but after 1.5 hours of installation, configuring, and tinkering it was working perfectly. Now just to rework and upgrade all the insane wiring that is there.

I was forced to pay 45 KD for the customs, and fees, I would have been better off if I flew to Dubai, picked it up and flew back so next time that is whats going to happen.

Customs & The Run Around...

txsr875silverlrg1.jpg

The customs run around, this has been ridiculous, I have never seen this much stupidity in so many different government institutions in Kuwait.

  • Sunday: Receiver arrived in Kuwait
  • Monday: Customs require original reciept, which they have, then they ask for the original brochure. 1 pm they close.
  • Tuesday: They didn’t get to my items until the afternoon, then they asked for MOC Clearance (Ifraag), by that time MOC is closed.
  • Wednesday: Submitted paper work for ifraag, and they said it takes one day and they were asking why the item was so big for a satelite receiver, they don’t understand what a Home Theater Receiver is.
  • Thursday: MOC says the paper isn’t signed come back Sunday
  • Sunday:MOC Not signed yet
  • Monday:MOC signed, Customs guy sees the product then says its ok, but then asks for clearance from Ministry Of Information. So paper work and the product goes to MOI.
  • Tuesday: Took the paperwork to them and they said that they can’t release the product since they haven’t seen one like that in Kuwait.
  • Wednesday: Argued with Ministry Of Information and got Clearance (Shouting Helps). I have the product with me just need some stamps from MOI and Customs and its mine by the end of the Thursday. (I hope)

They are all a bunch of idiots that need to be slapped around.

Oxford Maximiser 360T...

oxfordmaximiser360t.jpg

How many times in one year do you run into battery problems or have issues with the battery not charging properly. I have consistently run into this problem over the years with both the bikes and cars, so I have been looking for the correct batery charger, and at last I have found exactly what I was looking for, an intelligent charger/tester.

The Oxford Maximiser 360 does exactly that and more:

  • Tests Battery Connection Polarity
  • Analyses Your Battery & Diagnoses Condition
  • Recovers Gently Even Heavily Discharged Batteries
  • Checks Voltage Retention
  • Bulk Charges Low Batteries Quickly
  • Advises Battery Condition
  • Maintains Battery with a Low Current if the Voltage Drops Below a Certain Limit
  • Battery Condition Adviser Shows if the Battery is Able to Hold Charge or is in Need of Replacement
  • Charge mode option allows you, at a press of the button, to choose between 3 charge rates for motorcycle (600mA) Car/Boat (3600mA) and Boost (for AGM and cold weather charging)
  • Backlit LCD display shows real-time charging rate. It shows both battery charge voltage & amperage

These are exactly are the exact features that I would want from a battery charger that can charge all different types of batteries.

Sharp Aquos AN-ACD2 Home Theater Stand...

sharp_an_acd2.jpg

This is becoming a trend with some home theater manufacturers to bundle the speakers into the TV stand because they know a lot of people can’t have the custom table or setup they want and this is a good way to save space yet enjoy all that you want from your speakers and subwoofers.

With the built-in speakers and subwoofer you get about 150W worth of sound to enjoy, and there is enough bays for adding two more pieces of electronic equipment (HiDef Player, Game Console, HTPC, and more). This is perfect for a cozy apartment or room to save space and to make it look very slick. I wouldn’t put the plasma/LCD on the table, I would probably hang it so that I could make use of the table top for more electronic items or just accessories.
