Minor Wire Organization...

The one major mess that I have is the wiring next to my shelf, since the power was out I took the opportunity to plug in this very ingenious surge protector that I found at Ace Hardware.

List of items plugged into it orginally:

  • Stereo (120V)
  • ADSL
  • Switch
  • Sonos (120/240V)
  • Infrant Ready NAS (120/240V)
  • Voip Base (120V)
  • Voip Phone (120V)
  • USB Charger
  • Nokia Charger
  • Sony Ericsson Charger

The chargers aren’t in use all at once and 90% of the time the stereo is off, since my source of music is the Sonos. The previous strip had 5 available plugs, but this beauty had 10 plugs which made things a lot easier to plug and in an organized way. I have a power converter for the machines that need 120V, and some wires that I just can’t get rid of no matter what I do. At least now its a lot more organized, then before, I’m planning on getting two more, the will reduce the number of surge protectors under my desk from 4 to two, as I said before any power fluctuation in the house is due to my usage.

GPS Mail Logger...

Now this is genius! The GPS Mail Logger is a GPS tracking device that can be mailed in an envelope, tracking the exact location, speed and altitude of your envelope, from the time it leaves you to the time it reaches the destination. It is expensive but if you really need to track something then this is key, I wonder how it gets through materials, vehicles, and buildings to send the signal. I also wonder if it is legal when the document or package is sent on a plane and if you can get the signal, I am really curious of it s capabilities.

Review: Phillips VOIP 841...

I have been using this phone for a few weeks now and I used every feature it has. I tend to make a lot of phone calls to the US and UK, and some of those phone calls last over an hour. When talking to technical service of some kind you stay on hold for the longest time. The best solution for my needs was Skype, but the most annoying part for me about using Skype is having to use the computer.

A basic breakdown of Skype, its an internet based solution for Skype to Skype calls, and Skype to Normal Lines call. With the normal lines you have to pay a very small fee, and with a dedicated land line number in the US which is a one time fee. Now Skype offers Unlimited World Calls and Unlimited Country calls for a small fee as well. But I’m not here to review Skype but this Phillips Voip Phone.

Pros

  • All your contacts integrate from Skype when you login, any changes to Skype contacts online will be reflected on the phone
  • Very good quality of sound with Skype, good quality with land line, I was surprised that land line quality was worse then the Skype. Some people thought I was calling from within the US
  • Very good battery life lasted a couple of days on standby, and a couple of hours of talk time
  • Good with conference calls
  • No dropped calls with all my calls lasting over 30 minutes
  • Very loud speaker
  • Works with headsets
  • Reasonable Price

Cons

  • The phone design is nice but after long use it isn’t the most comfortable in your hand
  • No Volume Control
  • No manual and bad Phillips Support (Lots of Online Support from Forums)

Overall I think it is a fantastic purchase, and if anyone is looking for a Skype solution then this is your phone, better then any solution I have seen yet.

Flytech Bladestar...

R/C Helicopters are always fun, tried one recently but I seemed to crash into people and walls a lot. WowWee who are the makers of Robosapien have come up with the perfect helicopter for fun indoors. The Flytech Bladester has a 12 inch wingspan and sensors, once you get it up in the air it moves way from walls, ceilings, objects, and other things which might stop it from flying. It can stay hovering in its spot without any control from a person, if you get to close it hovers away based on its sensors. I would want to try this out sooner rather then later, it looks like it would be a lot of fun.

Remote Control Paintball Turret...

A custom made double barreled paintball gun, sitting on top of a mechanized pitch and yaw mount bolted to a big tripod.

A camera mounted on top with shots powered by CO2 with 200 rounds on top. You can control it from 8 meters away, so you can hide while shooting.

Imagine taking out all the kids on the block without having to see them with ample amounts ammo. You can really terrorize the neighborhood and other areas, there is even a possiblity of mounting this to the bed of truck.

The Package...

I have been following up on my packages everyday since I ordered them from Amazon. There were two things I was worried about, one was the large amount of Hard Drives I was ordering, and the other was the Voip phone which supposedly illegal in Kuwait.

I called up Aramex and they said my package didn’t arrive, so I took the tracking numbers and headed over there to get my packages. The website didn’t update throughout the trip, just that the packages were in the box last Sunday, and then arrived in Kuwait by Saturday. After giving them the tracking numbers they somehow found the items with them and they were cleared which is great.

I wanted to rip those boxes open as soon as I got home, but I waited a little while before opening them.

  • 1 TB Hard Drivers, Qty 8
  • Addonics Host Controller
  • Phillips Voip Phone

I knew that I am probably going to start ripping into my Windows Home Server but that is going to take some time to work on.

R/C Airsoft Battle Tanks...

rc_battletank_both.jpg

Being a fan of R/C cars I have come across the perfect toy to annoy people with. A tank that shoots BB bullets and you have two sizes to choose from.

Realistic treat, full rotation of turret and 20 degree movement for vertical aiming. The bullets can be a single shot or multiple shot at one every second. This can be a very dangerous but entertaining toy, I would go into battle against kids, and small creatures of the neighborhood. Who is up to turn the office cubicles into a battle zone.

Review: Nokia N800 Portable Internet Tab...

nokian800-001.jpg

Putting through this tablet its paces has been fun, I have had the N800 for over 5 months now without any issues. Any time I am going anywhere it is always with me in a back pack or my pocket if I can carry the large object in my pocket. The N800 is great for surfing in hot spots or even connecting through your phone, they have really put effort into perfecting the OS, and the new OS 2008 from Nokia is fantastic, the stability and all the features. I’m honestly happy with this purchase recommend for anyone who wants a product that they can use for surfing, all their emails, and many other features, the best part was getting all the updates during the NFL games so I would have the score as the game was taking place.

nokian800-003.jpg

I’m honestly impressed with this machine from Nokia, it has taken beating and I have installed multiple applications on it without too many hiccups.

Sony HDR-TG1 Handycam Camcorder...

hdr-tg1.jpg

A new HD Camera from Sony which is supposed to be the smallest HD camera out there. Very light and portable camera, only weighing 10 pounds and recording at 1920 x 1080.

Specifications:

  • 2.7-inch touch panel LCD screen
  • Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 10x optical zoom lens
  • 2-Megapixel ClearVid CMOS sensor
  • Face detection technology
  • A 4GB PRO Duo Mark2 media card

This would be a very good camera to mount onto a vehicle or motorcycle to record those interesting scenes. I have always wanted to record and make a very high quality mixed action riding or driving video with the right kind of music. Like those BMW Movies that they used to make, those were one of the best short films I saw, I loved watching them, the scene, the camera angles, the flow of the films.

iPhone Accessories...

iphoneworkingclassheroes.png

There are a lot of accessories for this Apple product as any other Apple product but these two are interesting. I like the Working Class Heroes iPhone Multi Case which is functional more then the fashionable look, and it makes the phone a little bulkier but you can carry a credit card, headphones, and a pen. The other piece is Clear Booster which provides protection and a stronger signal when there isn’t much signal strength in your area.

clearboost2.png

The accessories just keep increasing that just make the product more useful. I’m assuming you could probably use the Multi Case for the Apple iPod Touch as well but not the Clear Boost since its not a phone.
