I Love Souk...

ils3

I kept hearing about ILoveSouk so I decided to pass by, I thought it was an exhibition for a week or two at the Corniche Club. Turns out I was wrong, its a new concept by Majed Al Sabah, the creator of Villa Moda, with an interesting twist. A lot of the items are original pieces, the ground floor is furniture pieces and art gallery, which at this point has Youtube looking art.

On the first floor they have women apparel, one off pieces, and lots of interesting accessories. What I found the most interesting is the Lomography stand with all the different variations of the Camera and samples. Its very nice seeing a fresh store like this and I hope them great success. I think that it caters to many different tastes and its worth checking out.

Text Pieces by Stefan Brüggemann...

I really like this art work, its simple yet gets you thinking. I wish we had an art community which is supported in Kuwait. What we have is supported through private individuals and not more then that. One of the few places that I have seen which are active with exhibitions is The Exhibition and Sultan Gallery.

100 Epos Cards...

I don’t know what exactly is the concept behind all these credit cards, but all I know is that they are very cool. I think a bank in Japan had 100 different designers make all these different cards, I’m not sure whats the reason but wouldn’t it be cool that some of these cards really be made for the consumer. I doubt a bank in Kuwait would think of doing something like this.

The Telectroscope...

Now this is a very interesting sight, this developed from an idea in the Industrial age around the 1800s. Where they wanted to make an undersea telescope of some sort from London to New York. And now in this modern age, an artist took this interpretation and made it true with modern technology, but instead of a tunnel, it is connected through fiber optic cabling with a screen to see the other side, it is real time and you can see people walking by or looking into it. The piece itself is a work of art and the technical idea is very fun.

Photoshop Movie Effects...

The one thing about movies is their effects and what they can do. I don’t even have a clue how they would do it with real video but that would need some skills which I completely lack. Putting some effects into pictures is a different story, the link to Photojojo has 11 different movie affects to pictures such as 300, Pirates of the Caribbean, An Indie Movie, Sin City, A Scanner Darkly, and more. They are links to other tutorials to teach you how to do them to pictures which I think is great to try out and see the results.

Robots and Monsters...

rockeater.jpg

Artist Joe Alterio will make a custom drawn picture of a monster or robot for $25 or both for $40, they are 6 inches by 6 inches. Joe is making this effort to raise money for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and Pangea Foundation which helps fight AIDS across the globe. Whats great is for your donation your getting a customized piece of art, or two pieces of art. The way Joe makes the custom piece of art is that you have to mention three words for him to go with such as “Green, tentacle, airplane”. I think its a great idea and I would like to see more of his original sketches!

Fabian Perez...

Ma_in_White-573x763.jpg

I don’t talk about Art much, but I saw the work of Fabian Perez about 4 years ago in a gallery in Los Angeles, and never has something stopped me in my feet and I was mesmerized by the beauty of it and everything in it. I really want to get my hands on his paintings after all this time and I just want to meet the man who can convery so many feelings into just one painting. I like going into galleries but when I saw his paintings for some reason I just couldn’t take my eyes off of them and I was just staring at them for what seemed like an eternity. There is one which I don’t have an image of, its of man with a 1950s sharp suit and a really deep look to it. He truly is an artist and even in some of his paintings it is his wife in the white, I was shocked to know that it is his wife because she is mesmirizing and beautiful in the paintings.
