Review: Attack On Titan – Shingeki no Kyojin

AttackOnTitan

Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by giants. Giants are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by enclosing themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of giants. Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a giant in over 100 years. Teenage boy Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as the city walls are destroyed by a super giant that appears out of thin air. As the smaller giants flood the city, the two kids watch in horror as their mother is eaten alive. Eren vows that he will murder every single giant and take revenge for all of mankind.

Every once in a while there is an anime which will rock your world, and Attack On Titan is that anime for this year. I couldn’t wait for the next episode to air, its been a while since this has happened in my case. The protagonist in the story was so intense and yet he was taken out so early on with a twist that I don’t want to ruin for a person who hasn’t watched it. Eren was the main character, but then Mikasa, Armin, & Levi were also very deeply developed characters who really took the story forward with so many cliffhangers keeping people on their seats, and you can tell the fandom behind some of the different characters. You can tell the story is excellent when the audience are fans of different people. There are times when this show left me hanging and pissed, but it is only like that because I get so invested with the show and there are a lot of questions left. The best part is that I am satisfied with the show but there are a lot of hints towards a second season which I can’t wait to see how they develop, the tides have turned and they will now Attack the Titans!
